Kiva straightened her school dress, examining herself in the mirror.
Today was her first day at her new school, Vallentis Highschool.
She wasn't usually one for making impressions, but her friend, Ashlyn, insisted that it was important for a school such as Vallentis.
But after standing in front of her mirror for a while, with no success, she decided she didn't care. So seeing it was nearly time to go, Kiva went to go put her shoes on. As she finished tying her shoelaces, her brother, Torell, sat down beside her and handed Kiva her bag.
"Ready?" her brother asked, also tying his shoes.
"As much as I'll ever be," Kiva answered, tugging at the ends of her laces to tighten them.
Tor would have no trouble, he was kind, smart, and undeniably handsome. Unlike her. Kiva was average at about everything, and making new friends was not something she was good at.
Sighing, she stood up, slinging her bag over her shoulder.
"Hey, don't worry, you'll be fine," Torell said, placing a warm hand on her shoulder.
Easy for you to say, Kiva thought, but she pushed it aside. She sent her brother a grateful smile anyway.
"Come on, let's go," Kiva said, opening the door.
"Got everything?" Her brother asked, making Kiva pause to check, while he himself checked his own pockets.
"Do I need my phone?" Kiva asked, when she was finished. Torell paused thoughtfully.
"Yeah, maybe go get it just in case," he answered, tapping his foot against the doorframe.
Handing her bag to Torell, Kiva quickly ran upstairs to her room, where she found her phone plugged in on her desk. After quickly glancing at the time, Kiva rushed down to where her brother was waiting.
"We need to go. Now. We're going to be late!"
Handing Kiva her bag again, Tor hastily followed her as she hurried out the door. They arrived at the school gates, panting. Well Kiva was at least, Torell's even breathing only had a slight hitch in it.
Grabbing Kiva by the arm, Tor led them through the gates. They saw other kids being dropped off, and others hanging in small groups, chatting.
Kiva and Torell made their way inside the main building, which was at least three stories high. When they reached the reception desk, a middle-aged woman was waiting for them. She smiled kindly at Kiva and her brother.
"Hello, welcome to Vallentis High, new here?" The woman asked warmly, tilting her head.
Torell answered for both of them, "Yes, my sister and I just enrolled this year,"
The receptionist nodded, "Names?
Kiva spoke this time, "I'm Kiva, and my brother's name is Torell,"
The woman nodded again, typing away at her computer to find their files. After quickly reading them, she nodded a confirmation.
"Yes, you two are part of the list of new students this year," the receptionist said. She smiled, "How rude of me, I almost forgot, my name is Ariana".
Then, just at that moment, the bell rang.
"My apologies! Here, take these, those are your classes on there," Ariana said, handing each of them a sheet of paper. On it, was a time table, along with which classes and where.
After thanking the receptionist, Tor turned to Kiva and said, "I have the introduction stuff to do, I'll see you at break time".
Then Torell gave her a quick hug and they parted ways.
