Shockingly, I manage to string out every note out in perfect pitch and with perfect timing and perfect rhythm. Whilst I had obviously practised like crazy, scrutinising and deliberating over every single note, in all honesty I had still had my doubts over my performance in practices. During rehearsals, I'd always play it well but there would always been a couple errors of being half a semitone out of tune or ignoring the most trivial of performance directions.
We all bow after our conductor takes his, as the audience goes mad - it's such a pleasing, rewarding, fulfilling feeling performing and have people appreciate your piece. I don't stop myself grinning to myself as I take my bow.
Minnie and I hop off the stage by the side wings of the stage and go to pop down our violins and then go off to the after party.
It's absolutely packed - there are people in every single direction my head turns to face. I know Minnie's housemates and friends are all here and I wonder how on earth she's going to find him in here. I definitely know she has a boyfriend, Nathan (though I've never met him, but by the sounds of it, he seems decent) and he's meant to be here and he'll be lost somewhere in this sea of people as well.
I take a champagne which is offered to me but Minnie politely declines. I smile to myself, remembering back to when she told me, very specifically, about her lack of any alcohol threshold. In all honesty, I wonder truly how bad her tolerance must be and I reckon she's probably exaggerating but I don't bother arguing. Instead, I suggest that she goes off and finds Nathan or one of her other friends if she wants. I may be highly socially awkward by myself, but to be honest, I'm barely a sore thumb sticking out in this mass of people.
"I'm not ditching you," she says, laughing.
Regardless, we begin to shuffle through the swarm of people and she appears to be walking with purpose, as if she is specifically looking for someone. I follow her, unsure of what else to do, taking sips of my champagne whilst I'm at it. It tastes somewhat sweet and light, with just enough fizz and bubbles to satisfy.
We suddenly pause at a spot and she begins wildly looking around. I wonder what, or who, she's looking for her because her head is just about falling off by the amount it's jerking about. Her head then stops moving and her eyes are fixed on someone and her lips stretch into a knowing, and somewhat evil, smirk. I turn around to try find what she's been looking at and I don't see anything special.
Her phone alerts her with a new text message and she rapidly taps a reply.
I'm confused, to say the least.
"What were you looking at?" I ask.
"He was looking at you," she says, waving in the general direction behind me. I take a look and see a tall, lean guy in a tight-fitting, perfected black suit with a rather cute quiffy hairstyle, hunched over a skinny iPhone.
He's attractive.
"He's cute," Minnie adds. "Go say hi to him."
No! Is she off her head?! "No! I've never seen him in my entire life!" I say instantly.
"You total sheep," she laughs, and then grabs hold of my wrist and begins walking. No, no, no! I can imagine exactly what she'll do - and nothing is going to get me out of the situation.
This is Minnie Liu of all people, for God's sake!
Don't underestimate short people!
Well, she is wearing high heels, I guess... ugh, shut up Chloe!
I try begging but I know my voice is far too quiet and meek to be in any way assertative or persuasive. Plus, I am more than aware I sound absolutely pathetic and childish. Why can't I man up?
Yeah, why?
Because I'm pathetic!
Before I can say anything else, we've already arrived to this boy. God, please do not embarass me! I pray to myself. She can be so... out there, and the thing is, she's so unaware and nothing ever really falters her and therefore she's never embarassed.
But I am!
"Hi," she says, and the boy immediately spins round on the heels of his polished shoes. They're so shiny I can probably see my reflection in them. They look quite expensive and classy, and there's no denying he looks absolutely gorgeous.
Shut up, Chloe.
"Um... hi," he says, confidently enough in a highly attractive accent. It's an upper class English accent, but not as if he's the next in line to the throne or something. No, more the tone of a traditional, cheeky English schoolboy. I'm surprised I'm not melting by even the sound of his voice. It's gorgeous. Meanwhile, I am shaking by Minnie's side. I want the ground to swallow me up whole and I want to disappear.
Yes, he's hot but so what? What am I going to do about that?
"I'm Minnie, and this is my friend Chloe," she says, holding her hand out and firmly shakes his hand. Oh God, even his hands are gorgeous! Urgh!
Oh my God! He then turns to me and holds his hand out. At first, I think I've fainted but then I regain consciousness and limply shake his hand. Our eyes meet for a brief moment and they blink, unfaltered, back at me. They meet for a moment too long and I quickly look away, cringing.
I think that's it over and pray that we never meet again. I can just imagine him remembering me as some sort of freak of nature. I haven't even said hello to him. He probably despises pathetics like me.
I despise me.
"So, basically, I've got to dash off to find someone - could you keep Chloe company? Cheers," Minnie suddenly says and then swiftly walks away, abandoning me.
SHIT SHIT SHIT.
Where the hell did that come from?!
That's it, I need to kill Minnie Liu! What the hell's she done?!
What do I do?!
I have absolutely no idea!
I'm stuck! I'm stuck! And Minnie's gone!
She's already disappeared off into the crowds and I'm now stuck with this ridiculously hot boy who I don't even know the name of! What the hell do I do?
I mean, I barely know how to talk to boys - let alone hot ones!
He looks lost and dazed for a moment - I don't blame him - and he then just shrugs and scratches his hair and fidgets a bit awkwardly. Then he just holds his hand out in front of me.
"Well... I guess I should introduce myself," he says, his lips stretching into an unbelievably sexy grin. "I'm Jack. I'm pleased to meet you, Chloe."

I apologise as I'm aware this is a rather short chapter, but hopefully it was entertaining nevertheless! It still needs proof-reading, but I'm just far too lazy...
Check the fanvid on the side - it's not mine, I just stumbled across it and it's brilliant :D

N.B. Just in case you're wondering, this is a direct adaptation of Chapter Fourteen of I Found You.
