"But if you loved me
Why'd you leave me?
Take my body
Take my body"All I Want - Kodaline

Being alone was beginning to take its toll on me. It's been maybe around 4 days since I stole from the camp I found. So far I've been wandering through the woods, with no real clue to where I was, while only having the chirper of birds to keep me company. Being alone with my thoughts made me think of a lot of things, dangerous things, that I should really steer clear of. But it's not like I could stop either, I had no one and nothing to distract myself with. The occasional dead corpses in my way did not help my case.
My sanity was slowly leaving out the back door for every lonely day passing. I've never been fond of human contact, so I don't understand why, but I guess it's just natural human instinct to have someone around, for better or worse. It would never make sense for me that I somehow missed the old world, as it was a literal hell, but there was nothing I could do to control the urge to see real, living people.
Food was beginning to lessen again, so when I finally was able to get out of the forest, and caught sight of a farm, I wasted no time making my way towards it. I was barely even limping anymore. The farm consisted of only a medium-sized, white farmhouse and a big red barn. The enclosure beside the buildings, that used to hold some type of animals - probably cows - was empty of life. It was eerie silent, except for the chirping sounds of grasshoppers in the fields.
When I stepped onto the farmhouse's porch, I made sure to knock on the door harshly with my fist. A minute passed with no sound, so I deemed it safe and went to open the door. The house was clearly abandoned some time ago, as cobweb covered almost every corner and dust swirled into the air as I stepped on the floorboards. I found my way into the kitchen quickly and began scavenging the cupboards for anything edible. It turned out the place had little to no food left. The owners must've had taken the food with them when they left. I did find and grab a few cans of dog food, though. I wouldn't eat them unless I was starving to the point of death.
When the house was swept clean of supplies, I began making my way to the barn. It probably wouldn't have anything of value, but it wasn't like I had anything better to do. I repeated the process I did on the house, knocking at the door and waiting patiently. I heard a faint growling noise, so I held my knife ready as I swung the big doors open. To my surprise, no attack came as I looked into an empty barn with seemingly empty stalls. No Bastard snapped their teeth or reached for me with their rotted fingers. No stench of death hit me, only a stench of stool and piss.
My eyes darted around the big space as I began making my way into the barn. The faint growling noise came from one of the closed stalls. Slowly I stepped towards it and peeked over the little wall that reached me to my chest. I felt my own eyes bulge as I caught sight of a dog in the corner.
