ONE — day dream.
That morning, Yuyan couldn't wake up. She had practically not closed an eye the whole night. It left her thinking her insomnia would never leave her alone. Even her medication had no effect.
Having trouble sleeping was frequent for Yuyan. She had talked about it with her parents who brought her to a doctor. He gave her a herbal medication supposed to help her fall asleep. Yes, supposed to, since it had no effect on her whatsoever. She had the feeling it became worse since she moved out.
Yuyan always lived in Shanghai; she was born there, had her family and friends and her favourite places. But all of this fell apart when her father's job was transferred to Beijing. Initially, he left by himself, but when his situation had gotten stable, he asked his wife and daughter to join him. Yuyan had hated him for quite a moment. She had to leave sixteen years of her life in Shanghai to restart all over in Beijing, which she knew nothing about.
Moving out of the city also meant changing schools. So here was Yuyan, transferred to one of Beijing's most renowned high schools. Her parents chose it in hopes of their daughter not being disappointed, but in vain. She really did not like it and never actually wanted to go there. However, she had to go to class to avoid getting bawled out by her parents.

Yuyan got out of her bed with difficulty, after several minutes of lying down while wondering why her life was this boring. She went to her bathroom to get ready but stopped as soon as she saw her reflection in the mirror. She looked like a zombie: her skin lighter than usual, her puffy eyes, and her purplish dark circles. Indeed, zombie was the word.
She took a shower, did her skincare, got dressed, and attempted to hide her dark circles with makeup, although she had a strong feeling it wouldn't make even a little difference. The brunette gave up and started doing her hair; a basic low ponytail. It wasn't nice, but she frankly had no idea what could help her current state.
She made her way to the kitchen to eat breakfast. Her parents—as usual—had already left for work, yet they always prepared breakfast beforehand for her.
Yuyan left for school as soon as she finished eating, her headphones glued to her ears. She headed to school without caring about her surroundings, a sigh escaping her mouth as soon as she reached its entrance.

She went to her first class while ignoring everyone she passed over. Yuyan was not really close with anyone. For them, she was only the "transferred student". She hated this status; she knew that she came from a different region of China, no need to constantly remind her about it.
As she sat down, her friend, Meiling, joined her. Meiling was the one who helped Yuyan when she first came to the city. She had explained to the brunette how the school worked, who was approachable, and who wasn't. Yuyan was very grateful to her and considered her a good friend.
"Are you okay, Yuyan? It looks like you're about to fall asleep," asked Meiling.
Yuyan flinched. "I couldn't sleep last night so I'm pretty tired," explained the young girl while struggling to keep her eyes open.
"Try at least not to fall asleep during math class, or else you'll have detention after school."
"I'll try."
The teacher came in soon after and claimed silence. The morning went over rather slowly, especially when fighting against sleep. However, during lunch break, Yuyan couldn't resist anymore. She stayed inside her classroom to eat and fell asleep right after.
Yuyan didn't realize she had fallen asleep. She felt Meiling trying to wake her up and was about to scold her, but it wasn't her friend in front of her. It was the most popular guy in the whole school. Zhong Chenle.
