Hanna was so excited to attend the SPN convention tomorrow she could hardly sleep. Ever since the news hit that Misha Collins was now single, she couldn't help but have a small kernel of hope and fantasy that when she met him at her photo-op, they would hit it off. Ugh, what am I thinking, there is no way he would ever fall for a plus size, 40-year-old widowed mom, who is still a fangirl, when he can have much younger prettier, thinner girls. Get it together! She thought to herself as she looked in the mirror brushing her teeth before bed. She wasn't bad looking for a 40-year-old mom, she had dark green eyes, shoulder length brown curly hair and an olive completion to her lightly tanned skin. She pulled at her face looking for wrinkles and blemishes and frowned with her full pouty lips at her reflection. She rinsed her mouth with her minty mouthwash and went to check on her kids before she went to bed.
She crept down the hallway, lit only by nightlights, and quietly opened the door to her daughter Leyla's room. Even thought they were teens now, she still liked to watch her beautiful children sleep. They looked so peaceful and innocent. Harry Styles' new album was still playing "Matilda" on her daughter's record player, and she crept over and quietly turned it off and smiled. She looked around at her daughter's posters and art hung throughout her room as she shut the door and giggled to herself as her room had looked just the same when she was her age.
She paused at her son Harrison's door, locked as usual, and listened to hear him softly snoring on the other side. Teenage boys did not want their mom's peeking in on them and quite frankly she didn't want to know what he was up to with the door locked. He was a good kid, and they had a great relationship, he told her everything. But there are just some things that are private, and she never wanted to cross that line.
Her dogs came up the stairs and stood by her room door waiting to be let in, they were so spoiled and got to sleep with her at night. She enjoyed the company as it was all she had since her husband had passed away when the kids were small. She wanted to date but just focused on her career as a nurse and the kids instead, and it kept her too busy to focus on anything else. Instead, she read her fan fiction and fantasized about her favorite actor late at night to satisfy her needs.
In the morning, she woke up early and made a pot of coffee. Her mom was coming to stay with her while she attended the convention this weekend. The kids were excited as she would likely spoil them with an impromptu shopping trip, but they still slept in as usual in the summer. She had said her goodbyes last night before bed and they had a special pizza dinner and watched the latest Marvel movie together. She had packed her bag last week, and as usual had over planned the trip, making sure she knew what restaurants she could eat at, reviewing the menus, checking out the convention center layout, and even pre-checking into her hotel right next to the convention center. One great thing about being an "older fangirl" is having adult money to play with! she thought to herself.
She drank her coffee on the front porch with the dogs, enjoying the cool morning air and imagined what this weekend would bring. Her thoughts were interrupted by the arrival of her mother, "Did you pack condoms?" "MOM! Seriously? I am a grown woman." Hannah rolled her eyes as her mom laughed. "Hey, it's been too long its time you moved on and enjoyed your life." Hanna sighed; she knew her mom was right, but she hated how blunt she was about her lack of a love life. "I know, I know mom. But it just hasn't been the right time or the right person." Her mom bent down to kiss her forehead, "I know sweetie, I just want you and the kids to be happy." Hanna rolled her eyes, "Mom, I don't need someone to be happy. We ARE happy!" Her mom just laughed and shook her head, "You know what I mean. Anyways.... I was thinking of taking the kids shopping for some early back-to-school clothes this weekend. Is that ok with you?" Hanna smiled, "Like I could stop you." Her mom smiled back. "Have a safe trip sweetie, "she winked. "Yes mom..." Hanna grumbled only teasing back. She loved her close relationship with her mom even though she still drove her crazy sometimes. She gave her mom a hug, and finished loading up the car, even sneaking in the kids' rooms to give them both a quick hug and kiss on the forehead. "Love you mom" Harrison said with a small crack in his deepening voice, before he rolled over and went back to sleep. Leyla mumbled something incoherent resembling a, "luv ya ...mm mm," not even opening her eyes. Hanna smiled and tucked her back in her covers.
. . . . .
The 2-hour drive to the airport started out uneventful. She opened the sunroof, and sang along to her Spotify playlist, Songs to sing in the car. As she approached the exit to the airport, belting her lungs out off key to Lizzo's About Damn Time, a black SUV passed her on the shoulder of the road and cut her off. She honked her horn at the driver, cursing under her breath, "fucking idiot." The rear driver-side window rolled down and a man's arm appeared waving in distress. What the hell? She thought just before the vehicle began to slow down and swerve in and out of the lane onto the shoulder of the road. Crap. Hanna, being a nurse for 15 years, now knew there was some sort of emergency going on. She followed the car as it slowed to a crawl on the side of the road and suddenly stopped. The man in the back seat jumped out and ran to the driver's side. Hanna called 9-1-1 and jumped out as well to help.
The next few minutes were a blur of activity. The driver had suffered a cardiac arrest, Hanna helped the passenger pull the driver out and gave CPR on the side of the road until paramedics arrived with an AED and were able to shock the patient and revive them. She barely gave any notice to the passenger as her full focus had been on saving the driver's life. It wasn't until after the ambulance pulled away that she turned to the passenger to ask if they were ok. It can be traumatic to witness a cardiac arrest and she wanted to be sure they were ok and had a ride.
As she turned to the passenger a familiar voice startled her. "Oh my god, thank you so much. I don't know if Carl would have survived if you hadn't been here." they gushed. She finally looked up at the person before her. He was taller than her 5'6" frame, wearing a tan baseball cap, blue jeans, and a heather grey Henley with the sleeves pushed up to his elbows and the three buttons by his collar undone. Her eyes traveled up to meet his face and his blue eyes met hers. "Can I hug you please, you are a true hero," he continued to gush. Hanna was momentarily too stunned to speak, but quickly shook it off. "Of course, but I was just doing what anyone would do. I'm no hero." He smiled and shook his head at her, pulling her in for a tight hug. He smelled amazing, like clean linen and a smoky, amber aftershave. She hugged him back, smiling to herself. I must be dreaming; this cannot be real life. May as well enjoy it!
He pulled away from the hug and held her arms pulling back to look at her, "Humble, beautiful, and a hero? What is your name?" Hanna blinked at Misha trying to process what he just said, she was glistening with sweat from giving CPR and she knew her cheeks were red from the effort. She tucked a piece of her curly brown hair behind her ear and said, "My name is Hanna, Hanna Hunter."
"Nice to meet you Ms. Hunter," Misha's eyes lit up at the last name, "Hunter, eh?" He chuckled. "My name is Misha Collins, and you have my deepest gratitude. How can I repay you?"
