Chapter 1 - Meeting

Finn Wolfhard and i have been bestfriends ever since my family moved from the usa to canada for my fathers work. I was around 8 at the time and my only real friend was my cat stu. The move was hard on me especially since my already bad anxiety grew worse due to the new and unfamiliar inviorment.

I could barely go into any public space without hyperventilating and shaking. My parents costantly nagged me about making friends, and to stop being so quiet. In fact my parents are the opposite of quiet, they make new friends everywhere we go and they love talking to new people.

One summer afternoon around a week after we had fully unpacked and organized our belongings, I was making my bed absent mindlessly when I heard my name being called from downstairs breaking the silence of my thoughts. "Lydia!! I have some people i want you to meet!" my mom yelled excitedly. I walked down the stairs and started to hear more voices coming from the living room. I peak my head around the corner and see a boy around my age and what seemed to be his mom talking to my mom. My heart immediately started racing, but before i could calm myself down my mom called for me a second time.

I slowly walked into the living room and sat down right next to my mom across from the boy. "Lydia, this is finn, him and his family live a block down and he's only a year older than you!" my mom stated. I gave him a small smile and barely above a whisper i spit out "uh, hi". my mom immediately told me i needed to speak up.

"nice to meet you Lydia" he said with a dorky smile and little wave.

Our mothers then continued to talk with each other about us as if we weren't sitting right there. Then my mom waved us off to go talk on our own else where. From that day on, finn was my best friend. He was sweet, funny and was really patient with me and my anxious nature, unlike other friends i had in the past. Ever since that summer afternoon, we were basically inseparable.
