Uncontrollable Consequences | HEEHOON

Chapter 1

Sunghoon was, understandably, panicking.

It'd been a couple of hours since Heeseung's rut had ended and Sunghoon's heat was nowhere to be found. This was the first time since they had mated that their cycles hadn't synced up; it was the first time in Sunghoon's life that his heat was late. So, having these in mind, Sunghoon's state of anxiety was to be expected. Something had to be wrong with him, or they'd be in a lot of trouble.

Now, it wasn't like Sunghoon was particularly looking forward to being told he had some random illness that had affected his heat. However, the possibility of a pregnancy scared him far more than that. He didn't hate children and he wasn't against having a family with Heeseung, but as idols who hadn't told the public they were mates yet, that would be a lot to deal with.

So, Sunghoon started thinking of anything else that could cause the delay of his heat. Stress was a very common cause, especially among idols. But if he really thought about it, he hadn't been more stressed than normal in the past few days or weeks. He seriously doubted stress could be the reason.

Maybe it was because of a change in his weight? He couldn't tell if he had lost or gained weight recently. So it was very unlikely that could have affected his heat. He felt like he weighed the same as always. He'd have to ask Heeseung later, if any of the members, Heeseung was the one most likely to be able to tell if his weight had changed in any way.

Another possibility he came to think of was that his birth control was affecting his hormones. He never really read the full list of its side effects, but it would be weird since it hadn't happened before. Jungwon and Sunoo got the same shot he did, and they didn't show any symptoms like this either. But birth control did affect everyone differently.

Had it happened before, Sunghoon wouldn't even be questioning it. As things were, two years after they had mated, Sunghoon was scared. Something could be seriously wrong with him, with his body. They'd taken suppressants recently for a comeback, he couldn't stop thinking that maybe that was the cause.

At the back of his mind, Sunghoon's main worry was the possibility of a pregnancy. The idea kept circling his mind, coming up every time he tried to think of another possibility. It haunted him, every time it came back stronger, louder. He refused to believe it, though. So many other things could be wrong, his late heat could mean anything. He wished some other reason was the cause, it had to be.

Because there was no way that he was actually pregnant, right? Sure, they mostly didn't use condoms while in heat or rut, but they did most other times. And besides, his last heat had been months ago, if he had gotten pregnant then, he would surely know already. Getting pregnant outside of his heat was highly unlikely, especially with the shot he got every month. He paid even more attention to it now that he was active with Heeseung.

But what if the suppressants had interfered with the contraceptives? It shouldn't, the doctor told them it wouldn't. Yet the 'what if?' remained in Sunghoon's consciousness.

Sunghoon looked behind himself where Heeseung was sleeping peacefully. Following Heeseung’s arm, he ended up looking at his own stomach. Heeseung had his hand gently placed against Sunghoon’s stomach, as if he knew. It almost seemed like he was protecting and treasuring what could be inside. Hesitantly and trembling, Sunghoon put his hand on top of Heeseung and tried to remain calm. He convinced himself he was reading too much into Heeseung’s hand placement. Either way, he wouldn’t solve the mystery of his late heat at that moment, he needed to rest.

A few days passed and Sunghoon refused to acknowledge the fact that his heat had yet to start. He went as far as to avoid the subject whenever Heeseung brought it up. He convinced himself it was due to stress, which was exponentially growing by the hour. At that point, he was reassuring himself that the only reason his heat hadn’t started yet was because he was too anxious about it being late. If he could just stop thinking about it for a while and relax, he was sure he’d start getting pre-heat symptoms.
