My heart skipped a beat. I slowely reached for my gun in the back of my pocket, shaking again. I turned around and ducked down... I crawled along the cold floor to the end of the aisle then stood back up again only so I was at a crouch.

I breathed heavily. In and out, in and out. And then quickly turned the corner only to see a boy... A teenage boy. No older than me, yet no younger than me. We both had guns pointed at each other. He was just as terrible as I was..., muddy, bloody, tired... but I could see he had strength in him. He cocked a lopsided grin that showed beautiful pure white teeth. (They must've had toothpaste and a toothbrush here?) He had muddy golden brown hair that stuck up in different direction the curls lavishing halfway down his forehead and tucked on his ears. His eyes were blue, enough to make you get lost in, like the sea, only they showed his story... pain. He was gorgeous, flawless, beautiful, handsome...

Maybe I was going crazy. Of course the first human life I lay eyes on in about three years happens to be a boy... He couldn't mean anything to me... Just me... Being desperate...

"What's your name?" His voice was low, just as sexy as his body. He shifted his weight, not lowering his machine pistol. I gripped my semi-automatic tighter.

"Does it matter?" I replied.

He smirked and lowered his gun whistling low and spitting on the ground next to him, "My name's Dustin."

"Hayley." I said, eyeing him in suspision.

"That's pretty..." He walked towards me until we were arms-length apart. He held out his hand, offering a hand shake, "Well, Hayley, I plan on surviving this wasteland and I can't do it on my own soo.."

"What's the point in survival if there's nothing left?"

He chuckled, "Pessimist, are you?"

"No, realist." I answered my eyebrows narrowing, I didn't lower my gun.

"Oh c'mon Hayley, you really don't want to give up... Do you?"

"I'm not going to get killed by any of these retards if that's what you mean."

"Perfect, then you want to survive."

I shifted uneasily and lowered my gun and shook his right hand. It was rough and dry. He looked deep into my eyes... They were so blue. He let go of my hand and ran his fingers through his hair messing it up even more than it already was. "So... You just live here?" I asked.

"Yeah... It's been about two months I'd say." He said, putting his pistol back into his pocket and tossing me a crunch bar out of the same pocket. I caught it in an instant taken aback a bit but recovering by unwrapping it. I shoved my pistol in my pocket. I had forgotton how hungrey I was before and my stomach growled from the anticipation. I took a bite into the bar, chewed and swallowed. Then my throat felt dry.

"You wouldn't mind if I stayed here for a while too?" I pondered aloud as I skimmed the previous aisle for a water bottle.

"Naw," Dustin replied and sniffed as if his nose was running, "I've been lonely since Jared here died..."

It wasn't a big surprise that he was alone and his companion died, however I could tell it was a touchy subject for him so I steered clear from a response and found my old water bottle, twisting the lid as it squeaked and took a long gulp.

"You seem to know your way around." Dustin striked.

"Probably better than you." I breathed back.

"Ha! I've been living here for TWO months, Hayles'."

"And I lived right next door for my whole life, Dustin." I replied smoothly.

He smirked and craned his neck as we looked at each other from across the aisles. There was hardly any food on the shelf in between us except soup cans. The floor was muddy and trashed with old flyers and papers much like the rest of the store looked. Clearly, Dustin hadn't been here long enough to clean it up a bit. Then again, in the middle of zombie apocolypse, who would decide to clean a bass pro shop? I chuckled to myself quietly breaking eye contact with him.
