Sure, she loved her family, loved her pack, and even loved the chocolate chip cookies Emily made. But that was familial love. It was unconditional, deep affection, respect, and loyalty built through years of creating a relationship.
Romantic love is passionate, raw and a type of love in which intimacy and affection are prominent features—something which Mia had only ever felt close to until now. The girl didn't know how to respond to the bold outburst, only mustering up enough courage to look into the boy who sat opposite eyes.
Luckily Embry seemed to see the distress on his imprint's face and was quick to carry on talking. Bringing his hand into her smaller one in hopes she wouldn't run off again like she did when he told her what she was to him all those weeks ago.
"I didn't tell you that I love you because I wanted to hear it back. I told you because I needed you to know."
Mia finally smiled for the first time since Embry had said the fateful 'L' word. On the inside, she was mentally screaming at herself to run for the hills at the sudden confession, but she was sick of running, and her cute new boots made her stay in her place.
"Your heart is way too pure for me." The teen girl huffed out, followed by a laugh. Leaning her head against the boy's shoulder with a smile, Embry sighed in relief that he had the confession off his chest and quickly wrapped an arm around the girl's more petite figure, placing his chin upon her head.
Mia looked up momentarily, taking a split second before leaning in impossibly closer and pressing a kiss just below the boy's ear before starting a trail of kisses along his jaw. A soft grunt made its way out of Embry's mouth, and he felt like the luckiest guy on earth at that current moment.
"Why don't we get out of here? They're all watching the movie. They're not even going to notice." Mia quietly asked after she had pulled away slightly from the boy's tight embrace. The teenage boy couldn't wait to say yes quicker, but the sudden presence of another supernatural cut him off.
Stood, there was Jacob Black. Having just come from Bella's house, the duo could see the unshed tears and look of despair which adorned the boy's face. Mia didn't know if it was the sudden confession of love or that she felt genuinely happy for the first time in a while, but she quickly untangled herself from her imprint and pulled the other werewolf into a large hug.
And that's when he broke down. Jacob's body racked with sobs as the girl tried to hold him up, something which was unsuccessful as the two best friends ended up on the floor of the forest. It took a couple of minutes for the teen to finally stop his hysterics, but once he did, Mia quickly separated herself from the boy and rushed back into the pack house.
Both Embry and Jacob stood there, shocked at her disappearance. Still, before either could say a word, the small girl was already making her way back towards the pair, a large blanket and crate of beers in hand she had stolen from Sam's generous supply he kept hidden under the stairs.
"I know alcohol won't solve your problems, But it's a damn good distraction." The girl gently said with a soft smile on her face. Jacob tried to pull a grin to his face at the teen's efforts after weeks of no contact with each other, but it was more of a grimace which graced his features.
Embry soon made himself scarce; even from the protests from both teens, he knew the duo needed time alone to figure things out. So, with a quiet "Call me if you need anything." whispered into his imprint's ear, he watched the two retreat from the pack house.
It was a spoken rule that the underaged wolves didn't drink alcohol, something which Sam had stated many times. But the teenagers always seemed to get away with their antics with minimal pushback from the pack's elders as they were good at hiding it.
The short walk to the Black household was a quiet one. Without disturbing Billy, the two got comfortable in the shed where Jacobs's bikes had to began to collect dust after the accident. There was another moment of silence between the two before Mia finally decided to speak up.
"You're not going to cry again, are you? You got snot all over me."
Jacob couldn't help but chuckle at his best friend's bluntness, and the two soon fell into their old ways of conversing and giggling. The teen boy didn't go into massive detail why he was so upset, but Mia managed to get him to explain to her how Bella had left him to search after the missing Cullen vampire somewhere in Italy that evening.
"I'm pretty sure that she's the only thing that fills my head these days. And I can feel it slowly killing me." Both teens were many beers deep in their conversation; the werewolf had drank double compared to the girls due to his supernatural abilities. Still, he could hear his voice slur, and his vision slightly blurred around the edges.
Mia truly felt for the boy. Whilst she had been ignoring him all those weeks and enjoying her time with her soulmate, her platonic soulmate was drowning in his thoughts of Bella Swan.
"It's okay to be angry; you're allowed to be upset about what happened. But next time, try not to pick a girl who's so... Bella. I've had more interesting conversations with a streetlamp."
The girl's drunken rambling made Jacob spit out his drink as he snorted. As even though he disagreed with his best friend's opinion of the girl he loved, having Mia back in his life had taken a massive weight off his chest. And the two soon delved into their usual antics, not realising how drunk they were until the werewolf passed out on his shed's cold floor.
Mia stumbled over to where the boy lay, not so gracefully yanking his head up so she could slip a couch cushion under it before drunkenly patting his head and making herself comfortable a couple of feet away.
"Don't worry, Jakey. I'll never let anyone treat you like crap again. Only I can do that."
