Since the dawn of time, humans have always believed in the existence of superior beings, divine creatures who watched over them from heaven. They called them "angels". Messengers of God, luminous and beneficial beings who protected their lives and their future. Yet these beings were never seen, heard or touched. They were invisible, immaterial spirits, manifestations of faith. Humans believed in them because they gave them meaning, a reason to hope. Angels were their bond with the world of gods, their guarantee of a better life after death. Angels were their hope, their faith, their love.
But one day, strangers came down to Earth.
Mankind took them for angels, sent to protect them. They worshipped them, prayed to them, offered sacrifices and gifts. Their skin was clear and their eyes full of wisdom and goodness. They spoke a strange language that no one understood, but their presence reassured everyone.
Their wings were a real phenomenon. They were larger than the largest birds, and they could fold around their bodies like a cape. Humans could not understand how they could fly with such large wings, but they were fascinated by this ability. The strangers never landed, they flew constantly, as if they were in full contemplation of the world.
The humans had decided to welcome them with kindness and respect. They had built temples to worship them, and they even created feasts to celebrate their arrival. The foreigners had become the protectors of the city, they watched over their habitants and helped them in case of need. Humans felt safe with them.
And yet, despite all this, the dark part of the human species did not disappear. It only grew.
Humans continued to wage war against each other over and over again. Massacres, destruction, hatred in the name of this new divine power. They still believed it was the only solution, the only answer, the only way out. They continue to believe that there is no choice but to go to war. Others even dared to betray their protectors in an attempt to steal their powers or out of sheer jealousy.
The celestial beings, unable to consent to such aspectacle, left. All without exception. Without explaining why, without leaving a trace. They simply disappeared, as if they never existed. It was their punishment for humanity. Would Earth be better off without humans? Do they only destroy and betray? Or is there still hope for them? They made a mistake. And then, they forgot it. They have forgotten the coming of his beings from the stars, and their worship of them.
But today, while humans have their eyes on technology, humanity's destiny may well come from the stars. Where old stories would come to life again.
