Prologue

"May 26, 2012. Dear Diary, today's the day!" I started jotting down, in attempt to put my mind at ease. But that wasn't working out. I stood up hastily and power walked to my room door...

"Mom!" I called out, trying as best as I could to manage the shakiness in my voice. I looked around as my maid of honor and bridesmaids twirled in their pastel green dresses, trying to get ready for my big day.

"I can't believe I'm getting married already mom! This day came faster than I even imaaag...." my voice trailed off as I looked out my bedroom window to the decorated back yard. Thin layers of baby pink and pastel green silk draped down either sides of the aisle, marking the ceremony seating area. Green and pink orchids in white flower pots with a blush toned ribbon wrapped around them were evenly placed around the yard.

"Deep breaths sweetie." my mom said while nudging me as if reminding me to breathe. "Just stay focused on the reason why. It'll all be over soon." she said in a soothing tone.

I looked at my reflection in the ceiling to floor mirror located on the left wall of my room. "Please!" I whispered. "Just calm down nerves. Everything is under control." I contemplated my reflection and smiled, trying to convince myself that everything is perfectly fine. But my smile dropped into confusion. I don't know why, but I had that weird gut-wrenching feeling. I wasn't sure if it was nerves, or if something really felt wrong.

I started thinking about my handsome fiance. And an involuntarily smile replaced my puzzled look. I observed my reflection a little longer... Looking at myself head to toe. The way my brownish ebony hair framed the oval shape of my face. How my high cheek bones were complimented by a pink blush. And how the different tones of pink and brown eye makeup helped my hazel eyes pop and sparkle more.

Butterflies started to fill my stomach. "I need to see him now!" I said in a panic. I turned and looked at my mom, tears starting to build in my eyes. "Sweetie, you need to relax. Take a few deep breaths. You're gonna ruin your makeup!" my mom chuckled out.

Just then, four heavy knocks beat upon the door. "You have ten minutes 'til the ceremony starts" the voice on the other side of the door warned. "Alright. Thank you!" my mom exclaimed while staring at my reflection through the mirror.

I was the exact age that my mom was when she had gotten married. 25 years old. A not bad age to start a new chapter in my life. A chapter that holds a special bond between a particular man and I.

This year marked 28 years that my parents have been married. Deep inside, I was hoping that my marriage would last just as long, if not longer. "Why do I feel so upset?" I asked myself while shaking off the thoughts of my hopes for my marriage.

I turned to glance out the window again. And I hadn't noticed earlier, but the full moon was already out. And this wasn't an ordinary full moon. It had an odd green tinge to it, surrounded by a glowing purple ring. I was about to question my mom about it, and then bam! Sharp pains spread to the back of my head as if someone had taken a dull blade and ripped through my scalp. Then, everything went dark and black as I slipped into unconsciousness.
