Ace pov
I woke up to the sound of a loud ringing noise coming from the side of my bed. I discovered it was my alarm clock just going off. A slight groan escaped my mouth as I shut it off. I got out of my bed and stretched before going to turn on my light and looking at myself in the mirror. "Ah yes, the first day back to hell", whispering to myself quietly underneath my breath. Today is supposed to be my first day of 11th grade and to be honest, I've multiple mixed emotions as of now.
It's crazy just to think how I was thirteen years old three years ago in middle school and look at me now, sixteen years old in high school, with nothing better to do. Time flies, y'know.
"Hmm..which hoodie?" I said to myself while trying to figure out what hoodie I should wear today. But that didn't last long since my thoughts were interrupted by a familiar voice, and that voice belonged to my mother. "Ace, hurry up and finish gettin' dressed or else you'll miss breakfast and be late for school!" my mother shouted from downstairs. Well- I mean, she had a point, it was already 6:44 am and school started at 7:25 am so I needed to be prepared. "Almost done, mom!" I said and I raised my voice in order for her to hear me from upstairs.
(Time skip because I'm lazy like that lol)
"Mornin' mama" I said to my mother when I got downstairs. For the first time what seemed like forever, I saw breakfast that my mother prepared for me. It wasn't a lot though, just some bacon, eggs, grits, apple juice and donuts. "Wow mom, you cooked all of this for me?" I said a bit surprised that my mother actually spent half of the morning cooking breakfast for me. Usually, I'd just make myself some cereal while my mother would be showering, getting ready for work. "Uh yeah, who else I'mma make it for? Casper the Friendly Ghost?" my mother raised an eyebrow at me while having a smug smile on her face. I chuckled at this remark. "Nah mama, I already ghosts aren't real." "Uh-huh, now c'mon boy, and hurry up and eat your food so you can get to school" and I did just that!
*15 minutes later*
I was tying my shoes after I got done eating breakfast since I was about to head off to school. Once I finished, my mother came up to me. I glanced up at her with a weak smile upon my face. "Yes, mama?" I asked in a curious tone of voice. "Are you sure you'll be okay on the first day? You know what happened last year, Ace" my mother stated but with somewhat of a anxious expression upon her face. It was an incident that happened last year to me that made my mother worry but, I'll explain that another time. I sat up in my chair (due to the fact I was hunched over) and looked at my mom with a much more relaxed smile on my face. "Mama", I said, "I'll be just fine."
Last year was just unexpected but I will say this year is going to be much different, okay?" I said to my mom who looked a bit more relieved than before. "Well if that's the case, then I'll take your word for it" she stated before coming a bit closer to me. "Te amo, corazón. Espero que tengas un buen día"/"I love you sweetheart, I hope you have a good day" she spoke to me as she gave a quick smooch on my forehead. "Te amo, mama"/"I love you, mom" I replied back to her before running upstairs to grab my bag, coming back downstairs, and just like that I walked right out of the door.
