Jessica stood by the vanity putting in an earring and calling, "Sam get a move on will you? We were supposed to be there 15 minutes ago." When Sam didn't answer she called again, "Sam you coming or what?"
Sam poked his head out from behind the door. "Do I have to?" he asked. "Yes," Jess replied, "it'll be fun and where is your costume?" Sam sighed, "you know how I feel about Halloween." Jess smiled, pulling him out the door and they headed to the party.

They walked in and were immediately greeted by Jess's best friend, Elizabeth Charleston. Elizabeth was a music major and a member of the Stanford archery team. She and Jess had met when they were 7 and remained inseparable even after Jess started dating Sam.
Jess put out her arms and hugged Elizabeth. "Liz," she cheered, "it's great to see you! I thought you would be visiting your parents this week!" Elizabeth smiled, "I'm heading out tomorrow morning, but I wanted to hang out before I left." Jess laughed, "Well I'm glad you got to come to the party! Do you know if your sister will be able to fly in too?" "Yeah," Liz replied, "she called today and told me she would be there."
Jess smiled. "And how is Rosie? College life treating her well?"
Liz replied, "yeah, it's great that she is able to visit at the same time as me. Her rehearsal schedule is crazy, but she's having a great time."
"I'm so glad," Jess said.
Liz turned to Sam, "it's great to see you too Sam!" She hugged him and he hugged back. "We'll really miss you Lizzie." He smiled and Lizzie showed them to a table she had saved.
Sam, Jess, and Liz stood around the table chatting as their friend Lance danced over and handed them shots. Jess lifted her glass and said, "To Sam! For slaying the LSAT." They drank and Sam rolled his eyes, "It's not that big a deal." Jess put her glass on the table, "Come on don't be modest," she turned to Lance and Liz, "he scored a 174." Lance took another shot, "that good!?" Jess nodded, "Scary good."
Lance backed up from the table and headed to the bar again, "We need more shots!" Sam and Jess tried to protest but he was long gone.
Lizzie laughed and said, "With that score you can go to any law school in the country!" Sam shrugged, "yeah, but I already got an interview here Monday, so if all goes well I might be able to get a full ride." Jess grabbed his hand, "Of course it'll go well. You'll do great!"
Lizzie grabbed a handful of popcorn from a bowl on the table and asked, "So how's it feel to be the golden boy of the family?"
Sam tensed, "They don't know."
Lizzie tossed a piece of popcorn in her mouth, "Well why not? If that were me I'd be bragging all the time." Jess gave Liz a look, "Oh yeah Miss Stanford Music Prodigy has nothing to brag about." Liz rolled her eyes, "You know what I mean. Sure I'm here, but I still worry my parents all the time especially since I changed my major freshman year. I love them but I know that in my dad's eyes I'll never measure up because I didn't become some pre-med/ballerina like my sister. I don't know why I didn't just stick with business or become a lawyer like you." Jess put a hand on Liz's shoulder.
Sam huffed, "You're amazing at what you do Lizzie, you'll be filling entire concert halls after graduation. And family always has a few bumps, I would know, me and my family aren't exactly the Brady's."
Liz stood. "Thanks. Anyway, I think I'm gonna go make sure Lance doesn't get alcohol poisoning." She walked off in the same direction that Lance had just disappeared in. Sam had a slightly anxious expression on his face.
Jess grabbed Sam's hand, "Hey I am so proud of you. You're gonna kill it on Monday and you're gonna get that full ride." Sam smiled at her, "What would I do without you?" "Crash and burn," Jessica joked. They kissed and Lizzie walked back up to the table with a stumbling Lance around her shoulder, "hey lovebirds, you know I think you're the cutest but I could use a little help?"
