Now, Tommy wouldn't exactly say he was the luckiest.

'Come back here, you bastard!'

But he certainly thought the big vast universe would have at least a bit of mercy spare for him in her pockets. He was only trying to steal a loaf of bread, not the queen's crown, for crying out loud! Although, as the baker got closer to him and he felt his energy drain and his legs transform into jelly, he really thought that that was it, that that was how his miserable life ended.

Unfortunately for the baker, the child didn't give him the win, as he scanned his surroundings in a search for his escape, spotting then a vent in some dark alleyway, in which he could get away if he could somehow distracted the angry middle aged man that probably was very lonely, seeing how saddeningly bald he was. Tommy almost felt guilty for him.

So, being the main character on the whole planet that he was, he slammed into some dumpsters that conveniently appeared in his way, making them fall right in front of the angry man that looked two seconds away from passing out right there, on the street. The poor baker tried dancing around the trash that was now located on the floor, but sadly he tripped and fell face first on the pavement. Tommy really hoped he hadn't broken his nose, he didn't need more trouble in his way.

The boy snapped his head where he got lost in thought while looking at the baker and rushed to the dark alley, trying to find something to screw loose the vent. Of course, after a while his patience ran out and considered continuingly bangging his fists against him would be efficient. Spoiler alert: it definitely wasn't, Tommy thought so too, as he was now gently caressing his oh-so-hurt fists to his chest. Has his 'main character' luck already run out so fast?

In a last half-hearted attempt, the boy kicked the vent with his foot, not expecting it to fall outwards on the floor next to him. The screws were nowhere to be seen. He really felt stupid in that moment as he stared at his escape, thinking about his hard work that was seemingly all for nothing.

Swallowing his embarrassment, he crawled inside the dusty metal tunnel, which to say it was uncomfortable, was an understatement, and tried to get over with his dramatic escape as fast as possible.

'Anna I already told you, we can't go out now.' A voice startled Tommy.

After a few seconds of searching he found the source of sound. He leaned towards the screwed vent that was parting him and the warm room, trying to see what was happening. And what if he was a little noisy, after all this time living his life in uncertainty, didn't he deserve at least a bit of knowledge?

Oh, it was a mother and her daughter. The kid was completely restless, pacing around the room with no signs of stopping, as her mother tried to get her to bed. She couldn't be older than seven. In a last attempt the mother hugged her to try and lull her to sleep- and no, Tommy wasn't jealous, he was a big man.

He rolled his eyes and continued on with his wonderful and definitely not boring as heck adventure. He heard a few more voices as he crawled like a spider.

'Why thank you, I wasn't sure if this suited the occasion, I'm glad I was right!' Someone said, while pouring drinks for some people that were seated at a big table full of food.

Tommy scoffed. What a bunch of rich pricks.

Of course, not everyone was happy that night.

'Are you sure? You checked twice?' A worried voice flooded his ears. 'But how could he be gone? I saw him yesterday and everything was perfectly fine.' A deep sigh could be heard and the boy decided to move along, not wanting to intrude in on such a private moment. He knew first hand how it felt to lose someone. The boy hoped the person had someone to help them manage their feelings if the worst came to it- why wouldn't he, he had a kind soul, unlike some that liked to chase him. He really was the best ever.
