song inspiration: love chained by cannons

The glossy black walls shined around you as you walked the hallways, the sounds of your heels echoing around you. Your feet ached, but you were used to it. By now, you were used to a lot of things. Sore feet. Long nights. Constantly being cold, wearing only your simple black dress. At least it was long sleeved.

You've lived here for several months now. All things considered, it could be worse. You entered this place as a player, a participant in the Squid Games. Although you were all but traumatized in the beginning, taking your chances here was better than anything you could achieve in the real world. And the chance you were given was quite a special one.

You'd made it to the marbles game, partnered with a complete stranger. Truthfully, you'd probably made it that far on sheer luck, but by the end you were convinced your luck had run out, just like you'd run out of your marbles.

You stared at the guard, frozen in fear but trying to accept your fate. There was nothing you could do. The guard pulled you up by your shirt and jacket, your partner looking at you with immense pity. Looking at her made you feel ten times worse, knowing your end would mean nothing, would simply be someone else's trauma.

The guard pulled you away from the others and raised his gun. You closed your eyes, waiting for the inevitable, but after hearing the gunshot you realized you were still alive. You opened your eyes to see the guard pointing the gun just to the side of you. He quickly grabbed you again and led to you a side door, practically dragging you down a series of hallways.

There was no time to process anything that had just happened, and the guard was silent to your distressed questioning. You eventually ended up in an elevator, taking it several floors above you. Upon exiting, you noticed more of the same hallway and a room with a large leather chair.

Sitting in it was a man, clearly of a higher status than the guard who took you there. He was wearing a black mask and a gray coat with a hood covering his head. The guard led you to stand in front of him and promptly left.

You stood there awkwardly as the man stared at you. After a few moments, he stood up, standing in front of you.

"Y/n."

You looked at him, curiously surprised that he called you by your name and not your player number.

He stepped closer to you, making you a little uneasy. "I'm giving you an opportunity. Stay here and work for me."

You stared at his mask, apprehensive. "What if I say no?"

He scoffed. "What do you think?"

And so here you were, working as the Front Man's assistant. His servant. When he needed something, you got it. When he was awake, you were awake. When he was asleep, you slept... as best you could. It wasn't the worst situation to be in, it was certainly better than anything out in the real world, but you wondered if life would be like this forever. The thought of it gave you a sinking feeling that you ignored every time.

You wondered why the Front Man chose you. He was an enigmatic figure to you, never revealing his face, but somehow you were attuned to his emotions more than you cared to admit. It was obvious to you when he was upset or content. You seemed to notice more than he wanted to let on.

Despite the dynamic of your situation, there was no denying a certain attraction you held towards one another. You knew it definitely had to factor into his desire to have you as his servant , of all things. But he never crossed the line with you. There were several times both of you held your gaze on each other just a second too long, touched hands briefly when it wasn't necessary, times when he would give you a task just to spend a little more time with you. Even though the most you had ever seen of him was the back of his head, you still felt a strange connection with him.
