I shifted around, bringing my attention back to the screen just as the batter came out.
"Who was that person?" He asked.
"You...you're alive?" Asked the elsen, astonished.
"Yes," stated the batter.
"And...and the spectres?" Stammered the elsen.
"Eradicated. The barn is pure now," stated the batter.
"That...you...you must be very lucky," stated the elsen.
"Who was that person?" Asked the batter, yet again.
"That...That was Dedan," stated the elsen. I knew it! "He's the queen's supervisor".
"You mean spectre," stated the batter.
"......no...The queen doesn't employ spectres. He can't be one," said the elsen.
"But he's hostile. I must destroy him," stated the batter.
"No...no...don't do that. He's an envoy of the queen... i...i...uh...you had batter go complete your work in the smoke mines...p-please...besides, he is in Alma. No one can get there without proper authorization. So...please...return to the smoke mines..." pleaded the elsen.
"Alright," said the batter.
I can just imagine him speaking in monotone...
I had him save at the yellow block and walk back to the mines. The lighting from the lamps was gone in in the area, the batter being illuminated by his "pure soul". In there, we defeated spectres, got items from chests, and even flipped a switch to "off"...strange. After thoroughly checking the area, I left it and led the batter to another area of the mines with another save block and another character. I led the batter up to him.
"The characters are starting to pile up, aren't they?" Said the man.
"Pardon?" Asked the batter.
"What I'm saying is that the average player doesn't need all these complicated and tedious dialogues," said the man.
Even more fourth wall things!
"There should be more action and fewer questions," stated the man.
"Who are you?" Asked the batter.
"I'm zacharie, the the traditional items merchant that's necessary in every video game-"
At that point, zacharie's text stopped flowing in the box. The game had frozen. I looked away from the screen and looked at the clock on the wall, it was still stopped. I then pulled up the clock on my computer... it had stopped too...
"What the hell..." I muttered to myself.
I even tried to turn off the computer, but it refused. Suddenly on the left-hand corner of the room of the mine, a large load of pixilated dust erupted. A panel fell on the floor too with a metallic sounding thud . Everything stilled for a moment and I stared at the screen with curiosity.
Is this part of the ga-
I didnt have enought time to finish the question and i was already wrong obviously. Suddenly there was a forceful suction coming from the computer. I screeched as I was pulled in, my fingers grasping at anything I could hold on to, but to no avail. I felt myself being launched at full velocity towards the ground, it wasn't a long drop, but it did have me skid against the dirty floor of the mine, small rocks getting embedded into my skin. My wrist bent at an odd angle as well upon impact. When I stopped skidding, I was on my side and clutching my wrist. I took a breath...
Shit
"Player...." i heard someone say, but i wasn't paying attention. I was overwhelmed with the smoke as it filled my lungs in heavy clouds. I quickly retrieved my inhaler and took a few puffs...but it did nothing...that's when I remembered that their entire atmosphere was made of smoke.
"Player? THAT'S my player?" I heard another in a monotonous tone. I began to choke on the "air".
Shit..shit shit I'm going to die...
"Ahahah...I almost forgot...humans don't breath smoke..." said zacharie. I felt myself being lifted a bit, my back against zacharie's lap. For a few moments, I couldn't help but stare in awe at how realistic everything was compared to the pixilated version. That moment was short lived when I suddenly felt something slip around my nose and mouth and oxygen suddenly rushed into my lungs.
I sputtered and coughed as I adjusted to this new life line. Connected to the mask were two long tubes that were connected to two oxygen tanks. Why does he have these... They had straps that I could use to put my arms through, like a bookbag. I reached back for a strap but stopped and groaned in pain when I felt searing pain going through my arm from my wrist. Zacharie just chuckled, and began to wrap my wrist in a bandage despite my protests.
After he had fixed me up to the best of his abilities, we got up and that's when I took a good look at the surroundings. Everything was so...realistic... everything was purple...and dirty of course. Plus, the lighting was horrid. Not too far away, the save block floated, glowing faintly. And next to it was a not so happy batter.
Zacharie just chuckled. "Don't worry...it won't cost too much for all of this," he said as he motioned to the gear and wrap. "Let's say...300 credits? The bandage is free".
The batter just started grumbling to himself as he dug through his things, looking for credits. Zacharie just stood there, humming softly as he put his pack back on his back. Alpha floated around me, its light very bright and it gave off a loud hum. By then, the batter had gotten the credits and slapped them into zacharie's hand.
"There..." said the batter. He then looked at me. "Let's go...we have a mission to complete. Do not slow me down," he grumbled.
I looked back at zacharie, thanked him quickly, then scurried after the batter, still bewildered about the whole situation. As I was following the batter, I heard him muttering things like "weak" and "that can't be my player".
How will I get home? Will he always be be a douchebag? That and a million other questions flowed through my mind as we entered another area. We had run into an elsen and he and the batter were having a conversation. I had zoned out....but zoned back in when the elsen began to explain some history.
We were apparently at the plastic administrations of Shachihata, the northern part of zone 1...it was like a postal service and an organization of trade. Yet again, plastic was stated to be the first and most important element.
During this whole conversation, the elsen never noticed me, but did when he was finished.
"Ah! Hhhh...Wh-what are you?...A-are you a spectre?" Said he.
I shifted from foot to foot. "N-no...I'm not a spectre...I'm...The player. My name is Amaris".
"I-I see....hhhhh...". He turned towards the batter. "So...y-you hunt spectres? I-i...I know where they come from!" The elsen exclaimed. He leaned in close. "They...they come from the postal service!" He whispered.
"The postal service?" Asked the batter with a questioning tone in his voice.
"Th-That's where we send out the packaged forms! The problem is that...uh...nobody can remember which floor it's found on," said the elsen.
The batter then walked up to the lift...and... oh my...The amount of floors was outrageous. The batter punched in a random floor, we got in, and with that we were on our way.
