This is a humanised, high school, no-superpowers/Elements of Harmony-esque AU, although references may be made to either FiM or EqG throughout the story. Although some locations, events, and other cultural references may allude to ones that exist in real life, as My Little Pony tends to do, these are ultimately all fictional: depiction of these phenomena may be altered for storytelling purposes and may not reflect their real-life counterparts accurately, much less intended to stereotype or to offend. I try to research to represent stuff accurately, but there's only so much research I'm willing to do for an mlp fanfic I write for fun lol.

This is a piece centered on Applejack. Literally, uh, 99% of AppleDash stories are from Rainbow's point of view, but, as much as I love the girl, I want to give everyone's favourite cowgirl the spotlight for once, too. But the Applejack here is going to be slightly different from canon: what I'm going to try and do here is explore Applejack pre-development. In MLP canon, the Applejack we are presented with is, from the beginning, a highly mature person (cough, pony). On the surface, Applejack seems almost perfect; "Dear Princess Celestia, I didn't learn anythin'!" But is she really?

In this work, as we follow Applejack through her final year of high school, I hope to lay bare Applejack's vulnerabilities, her frailities, and all that which makes Applejack precious. What might've Applejack been like before? What makes her happy? What makes her cry? What happens when she gives her heart to someone else?
