It was a cold windy day in Doncaster. Cold enough that Louis wished he had another pair of shoes besides his TOMS. He was walking along the sidewalk on his way to school to avoid the multicolored leaves that had fallen due to the season change. He was getting slightly annoyed by the wind that was blowing his fringe into his eyes every few minutes. Suddenly he felt a buzzing in his pocket. As he pulled his phone out he saw a text from his best friend Zayn.

"Hey lad, feels like I haven't seen you in ages. Wanna hang after school?"

Louis felt a sudden rush of guilt. He had been avoiding Zayn. Only because he was dealing with his own shit. He also suddenly felt very underdressed. Everyday Zayn would show up to school in his ripped black skinny jeans, some sort of band tee that know one has ever heard of, and a leather jacket. Whilst Louis was wearing one of his red footie jumpers from freshman year that somehow still fit him, grey joggers, and his beloved bright red TOMS.

He checked the time and realized that he was going to be late.
"Shit" he muttered, and started running. His first class was math and he had a test coming up and knew that he needed all the in class time he could get. He had been late everyday this past week. He just couldn't get himself to wake up in the morning. Everyday it seemed like it was getting harder and harder. However he knew that once he would get out of this hellhole of a town then he would finally be able to make a living out of himself. His dream was to try and get a football scholarship and go to Manchester United. He knew it was a long shot since his parents didn't have a lot of money. His mom worked multiple jobs, days and nights to try and keep food on the table and a roof over their heads. However his dad seemed to sit and watch the telly in his chair all day. He wore the same ratty white tank top and jeans everyday. All day everyday he had a cigarette in his mouth and a beer in his hand. Louis wouldn't lie every now and then he would steal a few of his dads cigs and smoke with Zayn. It helped to release the stress and the anxiety that he felt.

Once he got to school he ran down the halls in search of his class. Feet slipping on the floor due to it being wet outside. Once he found his class he slipped inside trying to be discreet without letting the teacher notice.

"Nice of you to join us Tomlinson, any reason you think that you are allowed to show up 15 minutes later than everyone else?" Said his teacher.
"No no reason miss, sorry" he muttered.

As he slid into his seat he saw a note being passed around the room when the teacher wasn't looking.  As it reached him he tried to pass it but was then told from the girl in front of him that it was meant for him. Her name was Elenour she had long brown hair and was very thin. She was the stereotype of what attractive was deemed as. Louis thought that she was alright looking. He wasn't oblivious to the constant stares that she sent him. Or her flirty behavior whenever they had the chance to properly talk to each other. It had been like this for a few years. Louis could ask her out and easily get himself a good looking girlfriend. However she just wasn't his type really. Her and him had a few classes together and shared some banter. Nothing to serious. As he opened the crumpled up piece of paper it read

Why the Fuck were you late again man you told me that this test was important to you - Zayn

It's true he did tell Zayn that this test was important to him. He knew that the only way that he would be able to get into Manchester would be to get really good grades along with being really good at footie. But right now things weren't looking so good. His grades were slipping and he was loosing the motivation to keep them up. He ripped a piece of paper out of his notebook and wrote on it

alarm didn't go off

And passed it back to him. He tucked his fringe behind his ear as it was getting pretty long, and placed his head on the table. Ugh.. I'm such a fucking failure he thought. As the mantra repeated again and again in his head tears started rolling down his cheeks.
"Um are you alright" asked the voice in front of him. Shit could people really hear me right now.
"Oh ya.. I'm fine just a bit tired is all." He said with a cheery smile on his face.
"Oh ok... you can trust me you know" El said putting a hand on his.
"Eyes to the front please" said his teacher. With that she flipped her hair and turned back around. Louis whispered quiet praises that he got out of that awkward situation.

As he watched the clock on the wall hit 09:30 he quickly got out of his seat and ran out the door. Hopefully being able to escape Elenour's questions.
"Lou Lou hey Lou wait up" he heard behind him. He could recognize that voice anywhere.
"Hey Z" he said turning around.
"What's wrong man El told me you were crying during class." He said with a worried expression. That bitch he thought.
"I'm fine man you know how much that girl wants to be with me. She'll make up anything to get attention."
"Ok well I got to get to class see you after school" Z said with an untrusting expression as he left to go the other direction.

Louis stood and then realized that school was going to be too much today. He told himself that going to maths was good enough for the day. He went out to the back of the school and sat under his favorite tree. A thing that most people didn't know about Louis is how much he enjoyed the little things. The way that he could go and sit under this tree and be secluded by most was his favorite. He loved the trees quiet atmosphere and how the branches were so long that they brushed the ground so that you wouldn't be able to see whoever was sitting under it. It was a lot like a weeping willow from Harry Potter he always thought. He sat against the trunk with his backpack behind him acting as a pillow. He then pulled out a cig and his lighter that he also swiped from his dad and lit up. He took a few drags and started feeling the effects rather quickly. He felt that overwhelming feeling be pushed to the side and was replaced with a gloomy feeling. He just felt hopeless. Like he could be out and getting a job to help his mom unlike his dad. Or he could be getting a fucking education like the all the rest of his friends. However he was out here wasting away.

No one would care if I wasn't here he thought. This was a common thought for Louis. He only had one person he could trust and that was Zayn. Zayn had many other people that he could trust cause almost everyone loved Zayn. Whilst liking him was a little harder. He stopped trying to make friends a long time ago simply because he thought that no one would want to be his friend. As the years went on and his dad and his relationship changed he started isolating himself from people. Him and Zayn's relationship was the only one that was still mostly intact. He started paying less and less attention to his sisters and he and his mom had no time for a normal mother and son relationship.

Just thinking about it made more tears roll down his cheeks. Except this time they were coming harder and he couldn't make them stop. His cries were loud but at this point he couldn't care less. They were getting louder and louder and he didn't realize that there were noises coming from the other side of the tree. He suddenly felt something thumping up against the tree again and again. As he tried to make his cries stop he looked on the other side of the tree and saw a boy thumping his head back into the tree. This boy had curly brown hair and was loudly crying whilst covering his ears tightly. Louis walked up to the boy and put a hand on his shoulder
"Are you alright" he sniffled.
A loud scream then came out of the boys mouth as he ran out from under the tree. Louis was left under the tree stunned. Well I did not expect that he thought.
