Yes, I have the sense of humour of a nine-year-old. Also, in this universe, Kuro and Oikawa are friends because I said so.

"Where is Kageyama?"

Summer was one of the most difficult times to train, and serves were one of the most tedious practice routines. Despite these factors, practice at Karasuno High went on for the day. The third year's had been discussing the maintenance of club equipment, while the others enjoyed their short break. Hinata was the only one acting around, apart from the volleyballs in the gym.

Yachi had just entered with a set of refilled bottles when she heard the question, "Last when I saw him, he went into the storage room. Did you check there?"

"Oh right, I totally missed that one." Of course, Hinata hadn't actually checked anywhere. The storage room was usually empty, but when he entered, Hinata realized that he was wrong.

Someone had been sitting on the floor in the dark, cross-legged, looking different. Looking older, almost. A chill ran down Hinata's spine as he saw the assortment of milk cartons around this haggard-looking hermit. "Hey! How much have you had to drink?"

Kageyama's pale face turned towards the voice. It had only been ten minutes, but being alone with one's thoughts was an infinitely long moment. "I don't know. I lost count after thirty-seven."

"How did you even-" The other members were beginning to crowd around, Daichi and Asahi asking questions. Kageyama looked up at his team but he knew that this endeavour depended on him solely. He breathed heavily as he crushed a milk carton and slammed it on the floor. "Senpai, leave me alone. This battle is my own to fight."

It was exam season. And he was about to miss the Tokyo training camp because of his supplementary exam. If only milk could make him a bit smarter.

"Come on Kageyama. Yachi said that you're doing better." Yamaguchi stepped in, a little scared but fairly encouraging. Tsukishima on the other hand was of a wholly different temperament, "You're being a dramatic monarch."

Monarch?

Kageyama had definitely heard the word somewhere, but he couldn't remember. He looked up at Tsukishima and the thought of his annoying noodle ass joining the training camp only made him scowl, "This is my only source of comfort now. Go away."

He had been so miserable all day, and comfort food meant milk. Preferably warm milk, but the vending machine would do just fine. After carefully planning his budget for the month, he bought all the packs he could get with his pocket money.

"Come ooon. We'll think about it later." Hinata chirped in. He too was doomed with the fate of supplementary exams, but Kageyama felt like Hinata's pea brain only thought of the present, and at the moment he only wanted tosses.

"I don't think it's going to work out. I didn't even take the eighty-point test" he rambled, leaning forward and backwards as he continued to mumble a poorly memorized definition of Kanshi. "Hinata, do you remember what a couplet is?"

Coach Ukai and the entire team surrounded the supplementary kids, still unable to find a proper solution to will their brightest members through a term paper.

"Only three days" The words echoed like a chant bouncing off the walls. If this was a horror film, then Kageyama was sure to die soon. Moving very slowly, as if paralyzed by the fear of the dreadful inevitable, he looked up, pale. "Hinata..."
