For the first time ever, Isabela felt nothing but dread as she stood in front of her Casita. The bright and colorful house looked dull and lifeless through Isa's eyes. She contemplated going inside, when a voice called her from somewhere inside the house. The girl reluctantly walked through the entrance of Casita, a trail of pink and white flower petals trailing behind her as she walked towards the kitchen.
"Isabela! Where have you been?" Her Abuela asked spawning up out of nowhere and cupping the girls cheeks gently. "I was just out doing my chores Abuela." Isabela said planting a light kiss on her grandmothers cheek before turning to her mother who had walked in holding a plate of freshly cooked arepas to set on the table. "Isabela! You're finally back! And just in time too, I have a new recipe that I wanted you to try." Her mother said, wiping her hands on her apron after setting down the plate. "That's great Mama, but why don't you ask Camilo to do it? I'm sure he would be ecstatic that he could eat more of your amazing food, and also could I speak to you privately for a second?" Isabela asked, not meeting her mothers gaze and fiddling with her fingers slightly. "Of course! Why didn't I think of him earlier? And sure Mija let's go outside." Julieta said, taking off her apron and leading her eldest daughter to the outside of the house. Most of the house was covered in pink flowers that Isabela had grown(requested by her Abuela). Julieta sat down on the bench that was conveniently placed a little to the side of the entrance, patting the empty spot next to her. "So what did you want to talk about?" She asked curiously. Isabela sat down next to her mother and hesitated, contemplating whether she should tell her mother that she didn't want to marry Mariano or not.
Julieta sensed her daughters hesitation and placed her warm hand on her daughters thigh. "Corazon, you know I won't judge you no matter what you say." She said with a warm smile on her face. Isabela smiled softly at her mother and took a deep breath. "Well, the thing is...I'm not sure I want to marry Mariano, but Abuela really wants me too, so what should I do?" She said, looking up at her mother worriedly. Her mother gave her a small, sympathetic smile. She opened her mouth to say something but Alma called her back to the kitchen, telling her to come quickly. Julieta looked back and forth from the house's entryway, to Isabela's unhappy face.
"Julieta!" Alma called, from what seemed like the kitchen.
"We can finish this conversation after I help your Abuela okay?" Her mother said tucking a stray lock of dark hair behind her daughters perfectly-shaped ear. "Mhm." Isabela replied with a forced smile. Julieta gave her daughter a worried look before Alma called her again, her voice more this time. She gave her daughter a quick peck on the cheek before walking hurriedly inside to the kitchen. Isabela let out a sigh of frustration before hastily wiping away a tear that had escaped from her eye and heading into the house to get ready for dinner.
