SENDING A SWARM OF BUTTERFLIES towards a trio of abyss mages had given me and Lumine just enough time to sneak around them. We were currently tracking an Abyss Herald Lumine believed knew the location of her brother, but in following him, we had been attacked nonstop by monsters. 

"Lumine... are you sure this is the right place?" I asked as soon as I realized we had been going in circles for the past 10 minutes. 

"Paimon is sure this is the right way, we're gonna beat some herald behind soon!" Paimon had replied instead of the traveler, sometimes it felt they were connected in some way. Lumine nodded in agreement, "Dainself gave me these directions, he said I might find some clues on Aether if we follow them."

"I mean if you're sure? I'm pretty sure we've passed this exact mural 12 times though" I gestured to a painting of what looked like a city up in flames. "Wait, did you hear that? It sounded like a portal opening"

All three of us ran towards the direction the sound came from. Upon arriving, we find our Abyss Herald surrounded by some mages. We try to make as little noise as possible while we find out what exactly is going on, and it seems like a conversation. That or the Herald is giving the mages some sort of command. After what seemed like hours, the mages portal away and we decide this is the best time to catch the Herald off-guard. 

Lumine ran out first and I followed behind her, we had definitely caught him as he struggled to block the travelers' sword and my frenzy of ice attacks. Lumine and I had been fighting alongside for so long that we were able to coordinate our attacks to match the others. The traveler nodded at me and I knew that I had to send a papilio examen as soon as she would send her out gust surge.

Our combined attack would damage the Herald long enough for Lumine to climb up on my magnus papilio to deal a plunging attack hard enough to push the Heralds hp down 50%. As soon as the hit is dealt, the Herald unleashes its unbreakable shield and throws me and Lumine against the wall. I yelp in pain and realize my foot is stuck in a crack in a pillar. I yell at Lumine to let me be and ill help by summoning more butterflies to aid her while I try to get my foot out. She looks uncertain about leaving me behind until she hears the abyss mages reappear and she dashes away.

This had to be the dumbest situation I'd ever been in. Like, come on, we were this close and I had to sit here and look pretty??  Not that I was complaining much, my body hurt and I hadn't stopped sending attacks so a little break wouldn't hurt. I stopped to once again try to wiggle my ankle out of this stupid hole, and when I looked back, Lumine and Paimon were having a conversation with the Herald.

I was concentrating on trying to break free so I didn't bother listening in, my foot was almost free! Ah, finally, I'm free from this horrible wall. I rushed to stand and stand alongside my friends, it hurt to stand and even more to walk but I had to deal with it just in case the Traveler was attacked.

"Abyss.... find...no....brother....Khaen....prince" was all I could make out of the conversation as I walked closer. I could see Lumines face drop, she might've realized this guy had no helpful information on her brother. I picked up my pace, I had to be there to comfort her and treasure her that we'd find her brother soon.

Right as I crossed the, for some reason really gigantic, room and stood next to my partners, the Herald looked Lumine in the eyes, or I'm assuming he was. He summoned two hydro mages and turned to walk away.

"As a Herald, I will mete your punishment" He exclaimed towards her before he opened a portal right behind Lumine. 

"LUM WATCH OUT" I yelled out and before she could be sucked in, I pushed her out of the way, taking her place

The last thing I saw before I passed out was the look of horror on Lumine and Paimons face as the portal closed right in front of me.
