Title: Didn't Change Anything

This is a Caitlin/Barry one shot. Because there perfect (well to me anyway!) This is set after the events of episode 19 and sort of the fall out of what happened between Caitlin and the meta. SPOILERS, You have been warned!

She didn't know what to do. Every sudden movement towards her, every shoulder touch that's meant to be comforting, every accidental brush of skin, she jolts away. Its like she's being electrocuted. And she's sure everyone's noticed.

Caitlin doesn't understand why she's embarrassed. She didn't kiss first and she didn't let it get out of hand. Yes, she may have kissed back, but surely she couldn't be blamed for that.

All Barry wanted to know was what's wrong with her. He's slightly hurt by the fact that at every small gesture that almost felt natural before, she jumps like a deer. He can't help thinking back, what could he have done? But nothing comes to mind, because he would never want to hurt her.

Eventually she said she had to go and so she did. She walked out of Barry's day job laboratory, without looking back once, like she'd usually do. The real Wells body had been moved but you could still tell that it was in the room. Not exactly the most comfortable of situations. But Barry didn't waste any time, immediately he turned to Cisco and Joe who were just back from Starling City. "Guys have you noticed anything...." he paused looking for the right word, "strange about Caitlin.

"Yeah man," Cisco replied almost immediately, "What happened when we were away?" This is where Barry gets frustrates, as he drags a hand through his hair and answers, "That's just it! I don't know and I'm really worried! She's not been the same since the latest meta-human. The one who could turn into anyone he touched. He must have done something to really freak her out!"

They all stay quiet for a few minutes before Cisco shouts, "The security camera footage for Star Labs! She's hardly ever out of there! If something happened, Im willing to bet it happened there!"

Barry nods and Cisco starts to hack into the cameras. Barry can't help thinking about how he was knocked out and Hannibal could've done anything then. Looking like him.

He has been spaced out for a while because after what feels like 5 seconds but was really 5 minutes, he heard Ciscos voice drag him out of his trance, "Uh Barry you might want to see this."

Looking over Ciscos shoulder at the laptop screen, he sees Caitlin and.... himself?! No Hannibal. He would never act like that, he's shocked Caitlin didn't see right through 'his' act.

He can't help but clench his fist when he sees how close the meta is to her. He almost wants to go back in time again. Almost.

But what really shocks him is what happens next. 'He' walks towards Caitlin and spins her around before kissing her! No wonder she was so freaked out and she flinched so much.

She reacts how he would expect her to at first. She pulls away, but is dragged into another kiss. And she kisses back....

Barry doesn't know what to do. He could feel Joes and Ciscos eyes burning holes into him. "Wow" Joe mutters, "I think you have some issues to sort out Barry."

And so he runs to somewhere be can think, leaving the other two guys to replay the video again and again and again.

Running into Star Labs he slows done and walks. He doesn't know where he's going but somethings almost dragging him to the spot where it happened. It, the kiss that changes everything.

Stopping suddenly when he finds her in there. Focusing on a bright computer screen, obviously working on something important. He walks forward again before whispering her name. She's whips around, obviously confused, her big eyes full of confusion and fear.

"Barry" she sighs, relieved. But he doesn't want any small talk, he just wants to know the truth. "Why?"

That word makes realisation fill her eyes and she immediately blushes, visibly embarrassed. "Why did you do it? Do you have secret feelings? Or was it a complete one of, never to happen again thing. Cause I'm not sure which option sounds better to me." She finally forces herself to look him in the eye, breathing deeply.

"What the hell, he already knows" she thinks before starting to talk. " I honestly don't know why I did it. why I reacted. Maybe I wanted to, or maybe it was a spur of the moment thing. All I know is it happened but it's not going to change anything. You said it yourself, you're in love with Iris. You have been for so long. And you don't have any feelings for me, right?"

He stares at her, does he? He's never really thought of it like that before. But now he thinks about it, he realises what they're relationship would look like to a stranger. They've become so close, they've opened up to each other, said stuff they would never have dreamed of saying, to anyone else.

Did he feel anything? That was one question he couldn't answer. So she took his silence as " Of course I don't feel anything for you!" And although it stung a little to think that, she knew it would be best if it was like that.

He's in love with Iris, and she could never do anything to jeopardise that. So she took his hand and whispered, "It didn't change anything. I sort of wish it had, but it didn't and that's ok"

He has a feeling he wasn't supposed to hear that last bit so he just pulls her into a hug. A part of him wants this, he almost needs it. But then the other bit remembers it's Caitlin. And, although he's not here all the time, she's engaged.

A thought pops into his head when he realises where they're standing. He has to do this at least once. Quickly, so she doesn't realise what's happened and moves away, he ducks down and kisses her. Shes shocked but cautiously responds. Not like she did with the meta-human Barry, she's learnt her lesson.

Then, all too quickly, he pulls away and whispers, "There now we're even. Doesn't mean anything right?", before speeding away, leaving Caitlin standing with a faint smile, her hand on her lips and the most confused look on her face. Why did he do that? And why did part of her hope that he would have liked it as much as her.

And almost simultaneously they both had a realisation that Cisco and Joe had almost definitely watched that entire confrontation from the security cameras.
And they could almost hear all the jokes and comments and everything that's going to surround them for months, maybe even years.
