🌀 the wedding day 🌀

He'd resigned himself to his fate, as had Senka. Kneeling across from each other, their eyes refused to meet. If it were somehow possible to get through the ceremony without catching a glimpse of each other, they wouldn't have bothered to wake up that morning.

Senka's two mothers were crying, whether they were tears of joy was hard to tell. Her three fathers were unperturbed, if only the smallest bit distraught. Her siblings seemed to be taking the news worse than everyone else, though.

Children of varying ages huddled into one another inelegantly, the younger ones sobbing their tiny hearts out and repeating, "What about Tooru? What about Tooru?"

Uzui didn't care enough to ask who Tooru was. He really just wanted this over with so that he could finally escape for good.

His father watched him closely, threatening him with darkened eyes. Threatening him. His own son. On his wedding day. Father of the year, truly.

He sat through the stupid speech in front of his stupid wife in front of his stupid father and his stupid in-laws. Well, Senka wasn't a bad girl, but she obviously hated this as much as he did, so he could probably get away with bashing her just a bit.

Before they could recite (freestyle) their passionate vows, one of Senka's siblings whispered something that didn't relate to 'Tooru' whatsoever.

"Where's Suma?"

Suma? Oh, he knew her. She was a weakling. Cute, but small and emotional. She'd probably locked herself in her room and sobbed into her pillow. Actually, maybe she was also crying on this 'Tooru's' behalf, as her younger siblings had been. She was always quite immature.

Before he could (fail to) suppress a chuckle, he caught the sound of clattering footsteps coming all the way from the other side of the clan's land. Clattering, as in chunky wooden geta pounding against dirt and rock and—oh.

They fell.

Uzui couldn't tear his eyes away from the source of such a racket, almost forgetting that no one else in the room could hear it. To them, he'd suddenly whipped his head toward the door mid-freestyle.

As the person got up, he could hear soft jangles, and the rustling of what seemed to be a mountain of cloth around their body.

As soon as they got up, they immediately continued zooming towards Lord Uzui's home. Lord Uzui, who has guards.

Uzui (Tengen) scrambled to his feet, prepared to hear a splatter or screech or the ear piercing tune of a blade, but nothing. The person dashed further, having made it into the house with surprising ease.

Maybe those guards were getting senile, they were likely childhood friends of Lord Uzui, after all.

At that point, everyone could hear the panicked rushing around the mansion, the slam of each shoji door as the person checked each and every room. Of course, they tumbled more than once, everyone in the room wincing whenever they heard a particularly loud thud.

It was so tedious that Senka's fathers started making bets to each other on whether the person would make it or not. Senka's mothers had gotten bored, instead partaking in motherly gossip about who was caught making out with who behind the bathhouse.

Tengen kept his eyes locked onto the door, just praying that the person would barge in and end this nonsense excuse of a wedding. He'd even started tapping his feet frustratedly as they continued aimlessly roaming the house.

It took an extra 6 minutes and 19 seconds for the person to find them, kicking down the door and immediately falling backwards. Since, you know, clunky geta, heavy kimono, all that. It all happened so quickly that the Uzui's barely got a glimpse of the person, only hearing a feminine shriek as they tumbled once again.

Senka, however, shot to her feet and hastily made her way towards the pitiful pile of cloth and dust, screaming, "Suma??!" incredulously. Their younger siblings tried to free Suma from the tangled mess of her ceremonial robes.

Their fathers discreetly slipped cash pouches to each other, and their mothers couldn't care less about this new development, nor the fact that their daughter was currently drowning in silk.

Once she was (moderately) freed, she lept across the 24 foot room and landed smack dab in Tengen's chest. The force was so strong that it'd knocked him down, and now they were both sprawled on the less-than-comfortable hardwood floor.

She sobbed wildly, clutching onto his back and refusing to let go no matter how much he tried to pry her off of him."Marry me! Marry me! Marry me PLEASE!!!" she screeched into his robes. He could feel a damp spot starting to form from all her tears and snot.

Her fathers had finally decided to step up, trying to drag her away from the young man engaged to be wed with her sister. Her mothers were trying to console Senka, acting as if she'd been dumped by the love of her live. Really, she couldn't care less, only staring worriedly at a crying Suma.

The young ones were cheering for that 'Tooru' guy again, whoever he was.

"Pleeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaasssssseeeeeeee!!!" The girl sobbed, breaking Tengen's eardrums with the one word. His brother had made his escape long ago, which was fine by him, but it would've been nice to share the hearing loss.

Lord Uzui was still there though, the vein near his temple visibly about to burst. Once he'd had enough, he dug his wrinkly, surprisingly strong old man hands into Suma's hair and forcefully snatched her off of his son. She yelped in pain, hands leaving Tengen's clothes to instead clutch at her scalp.

Just as his father was prepared to rip the girl's head off, he finally grew balls. He snatched Suma back in the blink of an eye, not very gentle but it got the job done. Shooting a cold glare at Lord Uzui, he gritted his teeth, hissing an, "I'll marry her." just loud enough for everyone to hear.

Suma burst into tears (again, somehow...double?) and threw herself onto him again, although more graceful than last time. Not that it was all that elegant anyways, with her being, well, her.

Sighing, Tengen begrudgingly patted her head softly while she bawled into his robe once again.

Well, at least these were happy tears and snot.

🌀 to be continued 🌀

A/N: I'm not too proud of this one, but I wanted to get the first part out anyways. Maybe once I get to the Suma x wives part it'll be better, though.

Also, prologues are pre-main story (obviously), but in this case it'll cover their pre-marriage/marriage life. Like, for example, getting the other two to marry them. This 'prologue might be hecka long, so brace yourselves...(о'∀'о)
