To my Anna,

I am writing this letter on a cold evening.

It has been a week since they took me away from you to fight the Monarch's war. I assume you are reading this after having just danced in the meadows of your land. I trust that Unadrea handed this to you discreetly. I asked her to take my letters to you. She is like a mother to me, and she is the only one I told of our love. Please treat her well.

Perhaps this journey isn't so bad. I passed by an autumnfire tree when we trekked the Mountain of Rebirth. The place was eerie in beauty and unlike anything I'd ever seen, but the familiar sight of the autumnfire reminded me of our kiss. Your daring grasp on my neck was enough to give me nightmares, for now, I can only sleep at peace beside you.

May the Three keep me safe, and may this war end soon so I can be with my dearest Anna.

Yours truly,

- Dimitri

Dearest Dimitri,

Dearest Dimitri,

Mrs. Unadrea is a lovely woman. I thought she used to despise me as a child whenever I refused to eat her stew, but it seems her kindness doesn't remember my youthful stubbornness.

And yes, I was dancing in the meadows. How did you know? I didn't take the kind and honorable gentleman Dimitri to spy on a woman. Was I so entrancing that you had to look? Oh, a scoundrel you are indeed... but stare all you want. However, I'd prefer it if you joined me next time. Come home soon, but not as a corpse, or I shall find a mage to bring you back from the dead, so that I may dispose of you myself for breaking my heart.

I write this near the autumnfire tree where we shared our first kiss. I long for your hands on my chest... is that too much for a lady to say in a letter? I despise you for taking my fancy, because now all I want is you, your touch.

The gods do not care if you die. The Monarch does not care if you fall. I care should you not return. So let my love be your beacon.

Your ever-waiting mistress,

- Annalie Lobro
