TW: Mentions of sickness and death
"Hey... How do you feel?" Alex asks as he sits down on George's hospital bed."Bad." Is the only thing George answers after he opens his eyes softly and takes hold of Alex' hand.
"I get that..." Alex says, softly kissing George's hand and then his forehead. George opens his eyes again and they look into eachother's eyes.
"They say I'm gonna die. Alex. I don't want to die yet." They both have teary eyes as George pulls Alex' hand against his cheek, cuddling in it as if it's the last time that that's possible.
"Fuck, I don't want you to die either..." Alex hangs his head low to hide his tears. His husband is dying here and he's crying.
"Babe, don't cry." George now also lifts his hand to touch Alex' face.
"What uhm... What did they say?" He says, looking up again. Drying his tears with his free hand.
"They said the tumor is growing bigger and with the chemo we use now, they can't safe me." George states, matter of fact.
"And they can't try another chemo? Or, or, or another operation?" Alex asks desperately, as if George hasn't asked that yet.
"Operating is too risky, Alex... I'm sorry." George's voice is getting softer as he's also close to crying.
"You're not the one who has to be sorry, George, you did nothing. I- I just wished we had more time together..." Alex says, locking eyes again.
"Me too, babe, me too." George hangs his head low, breaking the eye contact.
"I just... I don't know Georgie... I don't know how I am supposed to live without you..." The door opens and Alex' head turns at the speed of light.
"Mr. Russell. Mr. Albon." The doctor greats them. "I guess you already heard the news, Mr. Albon?" Alex nods, whiping his cheeks again, drying them even more.
"We decided to switch chemo, to see if it can work. We don't know much about it yet so I need your agreement on this, from both of you." The doctor's eyes switch from George to Alex and back.
"Doctor, can I speak to you?" Alex asks then, voice shaky. The doctor nods and opens the door again, they walk out.
"Uhm, so I was wondering, I think George also already asked, but... Can't you try another operation or something else that we do know?"
"No, I'm sorry Mr. Albon. That will be to risk taking. We can't do that." The doctor explains, showing pity in her face.
"He's gonna die anyways. Why don't you try? And the chemo is also new and risky, why chemo and no operation?" Alex is almost crying again, not realising that George can hear the conversation.
"Mr. Albon, I understand your worries but there's a big diffrence between those two risks. All we can do to try and safe your husband is try this chemo and hope for the best." A tear escapes Alex' eye again by the thought that he might never see his husband again after today
"Right... Can I go back to him?" Alex asks, feeling sick about this conversation, he needs George now.
"Alright, ten minutes." The doctor allows him.
"I wanna stay. To sleep here." Alex says, not being able to stay away from George after this news.
"I have to check Mr. Russel's conditions for that, big chance he's not physically stable enough for that, he needs a lot of rest."
"Okay." Alex answers in a broken voice. They walk back inside and Alex sees that George has been crying too. The doctor looks at the machines and computers in the room before turning to looj at the couple.
