New Characters:
Worren: New bully to the school, tries his hardest to be insulting but it usually ends up being correct, funny, or ironic.
Anthony: friend of Ash, trans ftm, he/him, talks when in math and chemistry together.
Leslie: Stuck up rich girl who thinks she is entitled to run everything. You'll have to wait to learn more on how she connects to the main characters.
Ms. Jane Swenson: 9th grade Algebra teacher. Very nice, understanding, helpful, accepting of all of the kids.
And so, we continue on with Part 2; The First Meetings
Ash got to her class, and just in time too. They took their seat as the final bell rang, and the teacher started the lesson.
Ms. Jane: "Today in class, we will be working on team problems. Get into groups of 5, if you don't have a group, raise your hand and find others."
(The class got into their groups, the popular kids, the jocks, the clowns, the idiots, the horse girls, and... the other group)
Ms. Jane had the remaining 4 kids all raise their hands. Among them were Ash, Worren, Leslie, and Anthony.
The groups each got handed a paper with a few questions on it. They had to pick one person from their group to lead them.
Leslie stood up and said: "I should obviously be the leader, because I have more brains than the rest of you."
Anthony: "Is that why your head is so big?" He asked seriously, then smirked.
Anthony sat back while others in the class who were sitting around them laughed, other than Worren, who wasn't paying attention and listening to music instead. Leslie stormed to the bathroom.
Ash: "She didn't even phrase that properly. She should have just said she's smarter or something."
Anthony: "She shouldn't have said anything at all."
Ms. Jane: Holding back her laughter "Anthony" She gives him the teacher look with her head tilted down and looking above her glasses. "Be nice... *Whispers, almost to herself* No matter how much she deserved it."
Anthony: "Sorry... Hey Ash, you should be the leader again. You're way better under pressure than the little miss sunshine that just stormed out of here."
Ash: "Ok, anything to get my mind off of yesterday." Turns around and starts writing the problem on the board.
Anthony: "Oh yeah, where were you yesterday?"
Ash: Turns back around. "We're not talking about it.."
He gets back to work, writing the problem for the group to solve.
Ms. Jane: "Ok, when every group is ready to begin, have the leader put their hand up."
Ash is the first one with their hand up.
Ms. Jane: "Ash, it'll be a while, you can sit and put your hand down if you want."
The rest of the class took a good few more minutes before they were all ready.
Ms. Jane: "Alright, you can start... now!"
Each group has to complete the problems that the leader put on the board. The leader can't write anything unless the group suggests it first. So it's about communication. Ash can explain to the group why something should go somewhere and they have to repeat back how she got that answer.
Worren is still just sitting with his head down, listening to music. And Leslie is still MIA, and most likely not in the bathroom.
Ash and Anthony finish first, like usual, so they get to go into the hall and take a water break while they wait for the rest to finish. Worren is now sleeping at his desk.
Anthony: "Sooo, are we ever going to talk about yesterday? I saw you in the hall this morning." He said, trying to be comforting.
Ash: "So, you know the program that shows the new kids and stuff?"
Anthony: "The one that is constantly sending emails and putting posters up, trying to get more people?"
Ash: "Yeah, that one. They kicked me out of it, and they said it was because I missed one day. One single day, and they kicked me out."
Anthony: "I call BS. That is ridiculous. They're probably just not wanting someone LGBT as the head of their program. They hate when we do good things, it proves that they're wrong about LGBT people being terrible."
Ash: "I thought about that too. I was working on the group picture and everything else. I basically ran the whole thing. I'll just wait until they fall apart and come crawling back to me."
Anthony: "You're very dramatic, but it's accurate."
Ms. Jane: "Alright you two, you can come back in, they're done now."
They start walking in when she stops them.
Ms. Jane: "Oh, wait! Have either of you seen Leslie? I have to report her as absent since she hasn't been back, but I was wondering if either of you have seen where she went."
Anthony: "I think I saw her heading back this way but turned around when she saw you walking out of the classroom."
Ash: "I thought I saw her walking away, so it was at the same time as when you saw her."
Ms. Jane: "Alright, I'll let the office know. Thanks guys."
They go back to the class room and they sit and do their lesson for the day until the bell rang
While going to their next class, Ash sees a kid they've never seen around here before. He looked really lost and confused.
Ash: "Hey, do you need help finding your class?"
*?*: "Umm.. yes... please? I'm new here, and lost. Very, very lost. (They said softly and shrugged)
I wasn't sure who this new kid was, or literally anything about them. What I knew for sure was that there was something very special about them.
I saw something special in them, in their eyes. Like a glimmer of light peeking out through the darkness.
Older Maddie: "You're so dramatic." *chuckles to herself*
Older Ash: "I know, it's what I do best. You should know that by now Mads."
They laugh together as we see Young Ash bringing the new kid to their class.
