Daphne Black, or as she much rather preferred, just Daphne, came from an extremely long line of pure-blooded wizards, the Black family's legacy was known by almost every witch or wizard across the globe, an untainted Slytherin line that didn't stand for anything less than pure. That was until Sirius Black came around. He made it his personal mission to destroy the reputation of his family.

His first achievement was being sorted into another house, Gryffindor. Being sorted into anything less than Slytherin was unsatisfactory for the Blacks, but Gryffindor was considered a disgrace, a putrid stain on everything they worked towards. His second achievement was falling in love with his werewolf best friend, Remus Lupin. When his mother found out about this, she acted as quickly as she could to arrange a marriage for him, a pure-blooded woman that would not disgrace the title of the noble house of black. However, this fell through as his reputation preceded him, and no family would consent to their daughter marrying such a character.

Walburga Black, however, was a Slytherin through and through, and always got what she thought she deserved. The woman used this to break Sirius. Mentally and Physically. Tormented him constantly during the holidays, using spells to get under his skin, into his mind. Until...Sirius broke. He bought into her manipulation and broke it off with the werewolf, not being able to mentally handle the consequences that came with it. Even when Sirius ran away from home, he still couldn't bring himself to act on his feelings towards Remus again, always hearing his mother's words in the back of his mind. Only when he spent those twelve torturous years locked away would he regret his hesitance and break free from his mother's spell.

His final and last achievement was having Daphne. Her mother was a muggle woman the age of 19, she never did find out about him being a wizard, he left her shortly after Daphne's first birthday, not by choice of course. The death of his best friends determined that for him. She raised Daphne for the first three years of her life, before deciding raising a toddler that seemed to have some sort of supernatural ability was too hard for her to do alone. The third time she caught Daphne doing magic was when she made up her mind, she wrote the first two off as her mind playing tricks but seeing the child's bottle magically float into her lap could not be explained that easily. She dropped her off In front of the fire station in a little basket, with a piece of paper that had her name on it, not being able to bring herself to take her to an orphanage. And that was the last time she ever saw her little girl.

Twelve years into the future, a fifteen-year-old Daphne sat at the table, eye to eye with her father. He glared at her with pure hatred before screaming silently. She quickly put the newspaper down, turning it over. She placed her hand over her eyes as she squeezed them shut willing herself not to cry. She can't even remember her father and the first time she sees his picture, he's glaring at her? What bullshit.

Daphne wished things had been different. She wished her mum hadn't left, she wished her father wasn't a cold-blooded murderer. And most of all, she wished he hadn't escaped Azkaban. Finding out from the newspaper definitely wasn't the easiest way. But I mean it's not like she had anyone to tell her, until she got to Hogwarts of course. She just knew the rumours were going to get worse this year.

Wiping her eyes she breathed in and out, quietly calming herself and reminding her to stay strong. Her mind wandered as she grabbed her luggage and left the orphanage for her return back to Hogwarts. She liked to stay the last night of the summer holidays in the Leaky Cauldron, it made her feel more normal, like a regular teenager.
