Black. Much like the colour, her surname caused her life to be filled with darkness.

Being the daughter of a father you never knew was hard on anyone. However, it proved to be a lot harder when people around you were convinced they know exactly who he was. "A murderer" they called him. "A psychopath" they dubbed her. People glared in her direction whenever she walked past. All because they shared the same last name.

It took her a long time to come to terms that no one likes her, but by the time she stepped on the train for the third time, she didn't care about the rumours. For the first time in a long while, she held her head up high as she walked through the empty passages. One good thing about not having a family, is no family send-offs. Therefore she always was guaranteed a seat on the train.

Whilst everyone else was on the platform trying to get away from their sobbing mother or promising their father that they will behave, she was scoping out the carriages to find the best seat on the train. On the 3rd carriage from the end, 2 compartments away from the door she had just passed moments before, she found her perfect compartment. Smiling triumphantly, she grasped the handle and swung it open before swiftly shutting the door behind her. She placed her messenger bag on the above-head compartment and finally took her rightful seat next to the window.

Around five minutes later, she heard the noise of bustling students running to get a seat. She smiled contently and leaned her head against the window. She started to nod off but wasn't alarmed as she knew no one would have the nerve to sit beside her. It was times like this she loved her life.

"And then he grabs him by the back of his neck and BAM-he slams his face into the table"

"Lee, no offense mate but I have no bloody clue what you're on about"

"I just explained it to you" A boy groaned loudly " Okay let me start from the top"

Daphne slowly opened her eyes and turned toward the loud voice next to her. The boy supposedly called Lee had a chocolate frog in one hand and the other was flapping around as he explained excitedly. She quickly looked him over before turning towards the other voices. On the opposite side of the compartment sat two boys she knew as the Weasley twins. Daphne internally groaned knowing their reputation. The boy closest to her was leaned back against the seat with his arms crossed against his chest lazily. He wore a knitted jumper with the letter 'F' on the front. The other boy wore a similar jumper with the letter 'G' knitted on.

Daphne did not know these boys' first names but guessed the letters stitched on had something to do with it. Glaring at the boys who entered her compartment without asking, she stood and steadily walked to the door. Just as she went to open it, one of the boys stated,

"Yeah no point in going out there, there's literally no other seats" She sighed loudly before childishly dragging herself back to her seat. The one closest to her snickered at her movements. She placed her head back onto the window and closed her eyes. Just as she began to nod off the boy who snickered spoke,

"I'm Fred by the way" Once she opened her eyes, she looked towards him to see him smiling at her. "I don't care" was her response. Instead of taking the hint and leaving her alone, Fred's smile grew as he put his hand over his heart "See that hurt. Hurt right here"

She stared at him blankly for a few seconds before replying. "Okay."

This only made him grow curious, "So what's your name? I don't believe we've ever met"

His brother looked at him strangely and Fred kicked him rather hard on the shin. This caused the two to begin arguing.

"What was that for?!" His twin glared.

"You know exactly what that was for!" Fred matched his glare.

"Um no I don't...Unless it's because I took your broom out this morning and you noticed the nick, I promise it was an accident I really didn't mean to- Ow!" His brother earned another kick in the shin.

"You did what?" Fred shouted.

The two began to shout at each other so Daphne turned towards Lee who had a bored look on his face whilst nibbling on his chocolate frog. This contrasted with the exasperated look on hers. "Is it always like this?" He looked at her blankly "You have no idea"

Daphne nodded. "Right in that case, I'm gonna go get changed" She stood up and grabbed her bag but quickly fell back into her seat as the train stopped. The two boys quickly stopped arguing and looked around confused. Daphne looked out the window "We aren't at Hogwarts yet. What's going on?" The boys murmured amongst themselves confusedly before the lights turned out. This made everyone in the compartment jump and look around worriedly. "Daphne. My name is Daphne in case we die right now. Thought you should know" Fred tried to muster a smile but couldn't manage it so he just nodded.

The atmosphere got more and more eery as the air grew colder. "I can see my own breath" Lee whispered. Daphne shushed him. "I don't think we are alone on this train" She murmured. Everyone in the compartment sat rigidly as rustling could be heard from the corridor. Daphne held her breath as she saw a dark figure looming over the compartment door. Her eyes widened as she tried to make out its appearance through the icy window. It was tall. Very tall. With some sort of black robe covering its face. No one dared speak as it stood in front of the compartment, seemingly analyzing it. It rose its hand to open the compartment but paused before turning left and going in that direction instead. Everyone let out a sigh of relief as it left, but still didn't dare talk. Until a few minutes later, when the lights flickered back on and the train began motion once again. Daphne cleared her throat trying to get rid of the lump that formed, at the same time Lee spoke up, "What the flying fuck was that?" Fred's twin snorted and shrugged, "No clue, genuinely thought it was going to kill us though. Why did it just stand there watching us?" Daphne said with furrowed eyebrows "It seemed like it was looking for something" The compartment filled with an uncomfortable silence for a few seconds before Fred speaks up with a grin on his face "Anyone up for a game of exploding snap?"
