high school is hard, especially if you're a freshman and you've always been an outcast.

after the byers-hoppers moved to california, the party hasn't really been 'the party' anymore.

lucas got popular, though dustin and mike don't really care for that, max has been pretty distant, eleven and will moved (obviously) so it's basically only mike and dustin.

lucas sometimes hangs out and plays d&d with them when he's not hanging out with his basketball friends, so they had to kinds move on.

some guy named eddie had invited them to be in his d&d club, to which the two said yes.

we were greeted by a few others, definitely older, but probably not by much.

"i'm gareth," one of them said.

brown curly hair, a red flannel like shirt and it looks like they cut or ripped off the sleeves.

"i'm mike," mike, red in the face, said.

"i'm dustin,"

dustin didn't really care. they have a girlfriend in utah. other people don't affect them, even if the other person is cute.

"have you two played d&d before?" eddie asked.

"yeah, we uh, we played it with some friends. we rarely played it anymore." mike said.

"so you're familiar with the game, cool. i just finished writing a campaign. i didn't really think about if there'd be new kids, so uh, watch, i guess." eddie said.

mike and dustin nodded their heads. dustin watched as they played the game, whilst mike stole glances of gareth.

by the time the bell rang, signaling that the game needs to come to a halt, eddie said something but mike didnt hear it. they all grabbed their things and mike and dustin started walking together to class.

"did you see that guy?" mike whispered to dustin.

"which one?" they ask back.

"gareth," mike tinted red.

"oh no, you just met the kid, don't fall in love. what if he's not gay?"

mike sighed, "yeah, yeah, you're right."

"i know you didn't hear eddie cause you were busy staring at guys, but they're gonna pick the game back up tomorrow." dustin said.

"thanks,"

having known each other since 4th grade, dustin knew a lot about mike. how he would find someone and fall hard for them after thinking he could trust them, then, inevitably getting his heart crushed when something happens.

"by the way, gareth looks like troy at first glance." dustin said, picking up their pace. "so hurry up we'll be late to english."

"he does not." mike said, so picking up his pace, almost running.

for having long legs, mike walks pretty slow.

speed-walking, and not paying attention to hus surroundings, mike bumps into someone, causing them to drop some sheet music and drum sticks.

"shit, sorry," mike apologised.

"nah, it's fine bro, don't worry."

mike looked at them, feeling like he knows the voice.

"oh, gareth, you play drums?"

"yeah, i'm in a band." this made mikes knees go weak.

"c-cool, what band?"

"corroded coffin," he replied. "you should come to one of our 'shows' next week." he put quotations around the word shows.

"why'd you put quotations?"

"like, five people show up." gareth stated.

"doesn't matter how many people show up, it's still as much as a show than any popular band." mike said.

"oh my god, mike, hurry up." dustin said.

mike didn't even notice dustin was waiting on him.

"see you later, mike." gareth said.

"see ya," mike smiled and walked away.

"simp," dustin mumbled under their breath.
