"Boys." I nodded my head at the men, they were all so much taller than me. I felt like an ant compared to their size.

"Goodbye Andy." I turned over to see
another one of the girls. Ripped jeans, pale skin, white face. She looked I'll.

"bye." I said as my voice shacked. I wanted to help her but at the Sam stone I wanted to get the hell outta work.

I sprinted up out of the suppliers base to the main diner.

"Bye Joe." I waved as I got my things out of my locker.

"Oh hey Andrew, just the man I wanted to see." I turned around and saw a young boy, about 3 years younger than me.

"Hey Joe, and whose this?" I smiled as I greeted the young chap with a handshake.

The boy looked about the diner and moved a little closer to Joe. "This here is the newbie, names Lewis."

The kid looked pretty flustered I could tell he hadn't seen anything like this place before and I should hope not too, it's not really a place for kids.

"How old are you then mate?" The boy looked at me and then to Joe, "seventeen"

I looked at Joe and then noticed all the faces in the room had turned on Lewis.

"Andrew, I promised Lilac that you'd look after her younger brother, his age is irrelevant."

I recalled who Lilac was and noticed that this kid must be about "12" if not maybe less, good thing puberty was on his side.

"Why me?"

"Because you are the most reliable, sensible lads in the diner."

"And why can't Lilac keep him?"

I watched as Joe's face became more and more churned up. He looked down at Lewis and asked him to go to the cloak room whilst the adults talk.

"His mother died a few nights ago,"
I kept my eyes on Lewis the whole time during Joes talk with me. "Lilac was having trouble earning anyway and to be honest she never looked fit enough to be looking after him alone."

Joe was a nice guy, honestly I liked him a lot. But to me this sounds like he influenced Lilacs decision.

"Did she tell you that?" I questioned.

"She told me she didn't know how much longer she'd be able to cope with her life.." Then I realised how hard this was on the kid and Lilac.

Joe was a good man.

"Andrew?" He said as we both turned to look at Lewis, "will you take care of Lewis?"

"Where will he sleep?"

"With Lilac"

I gave him a more serious but sympathetic look, "long term?"

"Oh, in the brothel." He looked distrusted as he said the words and so he should be, "the brothel!" I said louder, good thing the men were talking about their good wives that thy didn't notice my yells.

"Yes." Joe said looking over to Lewis as he came over to us.

I whispered in Joes ear, "I'll have him. When it's all up in smokes, I'll have him"

I watched Joe mutter a 'thank you' and I hurried out of 'CRABBERS' I needed to get home.
