"Merry Christmas!" bati namin. The whole room was filled with clinking sounds of wine glasses. Nasa bahay kami ngayon nila Bea para i-celebrate yung Christmas with the team.
"Secret Santa na!" sigaw ni Ate Shannen nang ma-inom na namin yung wine. We decided to have a last minute secret santa. The catch is that we could only buy simple and silly items as our gifts.
Si Kat yung na-bunot ko so I bought her a glass. Yung huling punta kasi namin sa condo niya ay na basag namin ni Deanna yung baso niya kaya off-limits muna kami doon dahil sinisira lang daw namin yung condo niya.
Nagsi-puntahan kami sa mga na bunot namin. Pinuntahan ko si Kat para i-abot sakanya yung regalo ko. "Merry Christmas Kat! Hinanap ko pa yan, pang-bawi ko 'to sa kasalanan ko"
Natawa siya nang ma-silip yung paper bag. "You got the exact same one. Thank you! You're now allowed to go back to my condo"
Pinuntahan naman ni Kat pagka-tapos si Coach E para ibigay yung regalong binili niya. Na pa-lingon ako nang may kumalabit sa likod ko.
"Merry Christmas, darling" Bea whispered. It finally clicked why, she acted weirdly nung nag-bunutan kami. Yung pangalan ko pala yung na bunot niya.
"Thank you, darling" I smiled. Binuksan ko yung paper bag para silipin yung laman. I furrowed my brows when I saw two bars of Kojic soaps inside.
"Hope it helps" she winked with a sly smirk on her lips.
Pa-salamat siya't andito kami sa bahay niya, kun'di baka hinampas ko na yung sabon sa kanya. "Sira ka talaga" I rolled my eyes.
While waiting for the others to finish giving their gifts, she showed me the gift she received from Ate Jem, it was an alcohol spray. There was a note attached to it, 'Eto na lang muna yung alcohol na hanapin mo, may pandemic pa'
"As if she can stop me" sambit ni Bea habang tinaas yung wine glass at uminom doon habang naka-ngisi.
And since it's getting late, ni-liligpit na namin yung mga kalat namin. Bea would always stop us from cleaning our mess dahil bisita raw kami pero inu-unahan na namin siya dahil nakaka-hiya pa rin sa kanila.
Habang tina-tapon ko sa basurahan yung mga bote ng soft drinks, mabilis na tinapik ni Bea yung bewang ko nang ma-daanan ako. "Come with me" sensyas niya sa akin habang pa-puntang hagdanan.
Liningon ko sila Ate Shannen at mukhang busy sila para ma-pansin na wala kami ni Bea kaya agad na akong sumunod sa kanya.
She led me upstairs to her room while holding my hand. It felt as if we're sneaking. Scared to get caught together, alone.
"Anong gina-gawa natin dito" tanong ko nang maka-rating kami sa loob ng kwarto niya.
"Here's my real gift" saad ni Bea habang may kinu-kuha sa bedside table niya. She handed me a small box with a white wrapper that isn't even related to Christmas. "I'm not the best at wrapping gifts kaya medyo ma-gulo yung balot"
I carefully unwrapped the gift, making sure not to ruin the wrapper. Pinag-hirapan itong balutin ni Bea, hindi ko kayang sirain ito nang basta-basta.
There was a silver necklace inside the box with a dainty moon and northern star pendant attached to it.
"Thank you for making the bubble extra special, roomie. Kahit hindi na tayo roommates, I hope that there's still a part of you that will remember me when you look at the night sky" Bea explains.
I look at the necklace in awe, smiling as memories of the bubble flash in my mind, memories that I'll surely treasure. She made every moment special, from having coffee sessions in the morning while admiring the sunrise to gazing at the stars at night.
"Pwede ba, ikaw mag suot nito sa'kin?" tanong ko sakanya.
"Gladly" she smiled. She took the necklace of the box and went behind me. Hinawi ko naman yung buhok ko para hindi ito maka-harang.
"Thank you, Bei" I hugged her nang na-isuot na niya ito. She was surprised by the gesture at first but she hugged me back as well. "Not just for the gift, but thank you for you" I added.
I love her gift but it's nothing compared to her. She's one of the best gifts I've received this year. I'm grateful to have her as my friend.
