Melany and the twins entered their homeroom classroom when the bell rang. They rushed to their seats at the back of the classroom just in time, as their homeroom teacher, Mr. Clark, entered the classroom. Mr. Clark was also Melany's math teacher, and he was her favorite by far. As he took attendance, Mel could not help but to stare at her teacher fondly.

Mr. Clark was a man in his late forties, around 5'8, with a big beer belly that made him look just like a teddy bear. Melany could confirm that when needed he did in fact give out the best hugs. She should know, he had been close friends with her father, as they went to college together.

He was one few people who cared enough to be there for her after her parent's passing. Melany had spent many lunch breaks in his classroom crying. Still to this day, Mr. Clark remember her parent's death anniversary, giving her a bouquet of flowers for her to leave at their grave in his name.

Melany stopped daydreaming when she felt someone nudge her arm. Looking up, she noticed Mr. Clark looking at her with a raised eyebrow. When Cat nudged her again, Melany finally answered Mr. Clarks question, "Here", she said in a lightly flustered voice and smiling sheepishly at her teacher, knowing her face was bright red.

With a small chuckle, Mr. Clark went back into taking attendance. All Melany could do was shrug at her best friend when Cat gave her a questioning look. Cat gave her a pointed look, telling with her eyes to stop daydreaming, as she often did.

"All right everyone, quiet down please," said Mr. Clark, "I want to remind you all that next month we are going on a school trip to the Grand Canyon. Please remember to have your parents or guardians sign this form. I am going to need them back, signed, by Friday". Melany knew he added the guardians' part for her sake.

As Mr. Clark started passing down the forms, Melany remembered that Sammy had a school trip coming up as well. She made a mental note to herself to ask her Abuela about it. She knew Sammy was going to be very excited when she reminded him of his upcoming school trip. It made her chuckle a little to herself to imagine his reacting once she told him later that day once they were back home.

"I'm so excited for this year's school trip! I'm gonna be able to take so many good photos!" Said Cat as she bounced a little in her seat.

"Do you think they'll let us go bungee jumping? That would be so awesome!" Erik piped in, as the true adrenaline junkie that he was.

Mel just chuckled as the twin's enthusiasm, feeling quite excited herself. She received the forms from her classmate Valerie, and quickly passed the forms to her friends. She rushed to put the form away just as the bell rang, indicating it was time for first period.

Cat groaned, "I don't want to go to Chemistry! Remind me again why I thought it was a good idea to take that class? All we do is learn about formulas and atoms and whatnot! It's so boring and so hard! Kill me" she claimed, hanging her head as she got up, defeated.

Melany laughed, and gave her best friend a side hug, leading her out of the classroom. "Well, you thought that all you would be doing was experiments, like a mad scientist" she teased Cat, making Erik laugh and nod in agreement. Cat just responded by rolling her eyes as she waved, going to her classroom. Melany and Erik were still laughing at her expense when they separated, each going to their respective classrooms.

This was also something that Melany loved about her school. For their senior year, students got to choose what classes they wanted to take. Of course, there were some mandatory courses, like Math's and a science related course, but otherwise, they got a lot of liberty to arrange their schedules as they wanted.
