calum woke up with a splitting head ache. he soon realized that he had cried himself to sleep. and now he would most likely have to face his mother about what was wrong.
he knew that she only wanted the best for him but sometimes it was simply annoying. after all he was sixteen now and thinking of moving out.

without hesitating any longer calum swung himself out of bed and briskly got changed. he decided that a green flannel and black skinny jeans would do.

he didn't want to go downstairs, let alone get his ass over to school. but he knew he had to.

sighing calum picked his light bag up and padded down the stairs where he was expecting to meet his mother.sure enough she was waiting for him, arms crossed in front of her and lips pressed in a firm line.

now calum was certain that sh*t was going down. as calum sat down he didn't break the tense eye contact with his mother ; his eyes were fixed on her blank stare.

five minutes passed; five minutes of awkward eye contact. and five minutes of awkward eye contact seems like five hours of torture.

calum hesitantly started pushing himself away from the wooden dinner table.. but his mothers warm fingers wrapped around his wrist as a sad smile turned her frown upside down.

"is everything alright, cal ?", she asked quietly. he nodded, finally turning his head slightly.

he couldn't look his mom in the eye and lie.

"cal.. look me in the eyes and say it", she reached across the table and gently stroked calums soft cheek.

"but I can't", calum sighed, his voice breaking. he was close to tears and his mother knew it.

without speaking she pushed the chair away from the table and silently walked around to embrace calum in a tight hug.

thankfully it was way before the start of calums school, so he had minutes spare to cry onto his mothers shoulder. surprisingly it helped.
but he still hadn't told her what was wrong though..

"c'mon, I'll drive you today", calums mum smiled and handed him a cereal bar and a coffee. "you're eating a big dinner today, cal", she added as she passed him his coat.

calum gulped. he always tried to get out of big dinners. because a big dinner meant a family dinner. and a family dinner usually lead to a confrontation.

it just happed that his parents had a lot to confront him about now.

calum didn't have any time to waste on worrying as his mother was waiting for him at the door rather impatiently.

sighing he slung he back pack over his shoulder and scurried to the car, shutting the red front door behind him.

he sat in the front seat, beside his mother who turned the key in the ignition and drove them both away. a small feeling of sadness filled calum as they drove away from the bright red door.
the same color as mr. clifford's hair. calum rolled his eyes at himself.

maybe he felt a sudden pang of sadness because he noticed petite drops of rain running down the transparent glass. but maybe it was because he knew he wouldn't be home for another seven hours ; he would be at school, most likely hating his life.

you see, when calum said he enjoyed learning he meant gaining knowledge.. not actually sitting in a cramped classroom with mean classmates and a bitchy teacher.

calum exhaled, leaning his head against the cool glass. it was uncomfortable, every tiny bumped rattled the glass and made him feel slightly sick. he didn't really care though ; maybe the teachers would send him home if he was feeling ill.

a warm hand was placed on calums bony shoulder.

"are you okay, honey ?", joyce asked, noticing that calum was acting incredibly quiet. well, he obviously wasn't 'okay'..

he just nodded, making her worries increase. but she just brushed it off - she had no choice really as the bell was already ringing when they puled up outside of calums school.

"bye cal", she forced a smile as she pecked calums cheek. joy watched her son amble towards the big bleak building. it made her heart crumble when he was so upset but what could she do when he wasn't telling her what was wrong ?

calum slowly walked towards the school building. the rain was sinking through the fabric of his flannel making him shiver but he didn't care ; he didn't have history class so for all he cared he could look like total shit.

"hey loser", a hand was swung rather harshly at calums back.

he smiled.

no, he wasn't offended or hurt - this was luke's way of greeting him.

"hello", calum mumbled, shooting luke a quick smile.

"what's wrong, calvin. can't get mr. clifford off your mind ?", luke mocked him, pinching calum's cheek.

luke was calum's best friend, and he knew exactly how to get on calum's nerves. honestly, he didn't mind that much when he didn't have a tangle of noodles for a brain.
in other words, he just wasn't in the mood.

calum pushed luke back " can you piss off. unless you're going to be nice to me. but otherwise. would you kindly piss off ".

luke pouted, but his eyebrows were raised in a cocky manner. "calm down.", he muttered under his breath.

"fine then", calum shrugged, storming off down the already bustling corridor.

luke sighed , "cal !". he started running after him but decided not to. calum was like a girl on her period when he was pissed - it was safer to leave him be.

calum looked down at his black vans as he ran, not wanting other students to see the angry tears that silently rolled down his cheeks.

he thought he had made it safely to his first lesson when he bumped into a tall figure.

he recognized that smell : mr. clifford.

"oh, calum ! i've been looking for you."
