You awoke to a heavy push, a shove in your side as you rolled off the woolen bed, and slammed into the ground, tangled in your red blankets, cussing.
A taller, male figure stood over you, his arms crossed, your brother, Sabastian.
You scowled at him, and began untangling yourself. "What the hell was that for, this is the second time you've done that this week."
Sabastian shrugged. "You weren't waking up, and you have stuff to do."
By that, your brother meant CLEANING. He expected you to do everything in the house, while he went out and helped with building and guard duty. You however, weren't planning on dealing with this any longer.
You'd sent out a letter several days prior, to the Assignment Guild, and had been praying day and night that you'd be finally able to see the world in a new perspective, with new things to do.
Sabastian walked out, and you sighed, getting up and stretching, and gently placed your blanket neatly back on your bed, readjusting the pillow, and you walked over to your dresser, carefully opening the drawer, and pulled your tank-top off, and slipped on a black turtleneck shirt, with soft, brown pants, and a bright orange scarf, that was ripped at the ends, and made your way to the kitchen, and grabbed an apple from the small basket on the table.
As you bit into it, the sweet juice filling your mouth, you opened the front door, and opened the 'Mail-Chest', as you liked to call it.
A letter.
YOUR letter.
You nearly choked on your apple, and quickly snatched the letter, and hurried back inside, closing the door and rushing to your room, putting the bitten apple on your dresser, and tearing open the envelope.
"Thank you for your request to join a team, and work for the guild and help the community of Slywood out. We have one spot open that would fit you, Hell's Delvers, the Nether Team. We believe you'd be a perfect fit in there, so please meet us at the Guild on Saturday to agree or disagree and we may tell you more information on the job, and give you your supplies.
Best Regards,
Slywood's Assessment Guild."
The NETHER? People died there. Lava pools, dangerous mobs, fortresses, and people who went in there could stay in there for MONTHS before coming out. The Hell's Delvers were usually tougher, but well respected by the town.
You thoughtfully placed the letter down.
What if you died? What would your brother think of you going to the Nethe- Fuck what he thought. It was none of his business.
Still, this was not the kind of job you'd expected, or wanted. But wouldn't it be better then nothing? Staying here, acting as a housemaid had been too much, you silently agreed to this idea, feeling a bit salty.
Getting away from Sabastian was going to be the best experience of your life, and you'd make sure of it.Three days until Saturday, so what could you do? Find people to get advice from?
...Of course! The towns 'crazy woman' as everyone loved to call her. Ada was an older woman, 'round her forties, and it seemed as if she'd completely lost her marbles, after loosing her husband to the mines. Her husband and her had met when they were teenagers, when they'd both been placed as Cave Explorers, and fell for each other. Her husband had passed away from a cave-in, about ten years ago.
Ada had knowledge about so many things, strange stories, and spoke of prophecies, and stayed in her hut at the edge of the town.
Surely, she could say something useful? Unless she was, actually, batshit insane, but you wanted to find out yourself.
You turned, a wonderous look in your eyes, there was no way you would be passing up this chance, this was too good to lose.
You stuffed your letter into your pocket, and hurriedly slipped some wool socks on, and then your dress shoes, and hurried out of your room, and through the kitchen, swinging the front door open, and stepping outside, and closing the door behind you.
Outside, the oak trees leaves and branches swayed in the gentle breeze, and you began to walk, the gravel path crunching under your shoes. You walked past houses, then a bakery, and past the fountain, and past the other shops.
The canopy of dark green leaves overhead shielded your eyes from the sun as you walked, and you began to slowly approach the hut.
Stepping up the few steps, you noticed the wood on the steps were unstable and loose, and sighed, and with a small rhythm, knocked on the shabby door.
A shorter woman opened the door, Ada. She had short gray hair, with dull red eyes and pale skin, with a mole on her right cheek and wore thick black robs. Her dull eyes seemed to lighten upon seeing you. "Oh, my stars, is that Y/N?"
You nodded. "Yes, Miss Ada. It's me, I apologize if I disturbed you."
Ada smiled, and stepped aside to allow you inside. "No, no! You didn't disturb me, I've been waiting for you."
You walked inside, and gazed around. Herbs hung from the ceiling, and jars and crystals were everywhere. "You've..Been waiting?"
Ada nodded enthusiastically. "The wind told me, we have much to speak about, please, come sit." She motioned at a stood at a wooden table, and sat down in a rocking chair across from the stool.
You sat down at the stool, and fidgeted with the end of your scarf. "I wanted to ask some questions about the Nether."
Ada nodded again. "Your path does indeed take you there, you will grow little seedling, and you will bloom."
You glanced away. "Will I die, Ada?"
"We all die eventually." Ada replied, smiling. "No worries however, you have many, many years ahead of you."
You sighed. "What is the Nether like? What are the Mobs?"
"I believe that's for the Guild to tell you.." She hummed, picking up a quartz sphere.
"But--"
"Ah, ah!!!" Ada chided. "I have put my trust in the Wind, and now it's your turn to put your trust in flame..."
You shook your head, the wind thing made no sense. "Ada, you were a Cave Explorer.."
"Exactly. If there is a breeze in a tunnel, there is a entrance somewhere. It carried me to safety each day.." Ada murmured, a soft look on her face.
"I suppose that makes sense now. But flame burns, there's no trustable quality in that." You pointed out.
"Flame burns the forest...And the rain carries away the ash, and there will be new room to grow..." She stood up. "Would you like some honey cakes, dear?"
You sighed, this was going to be a LONG three days.
