"This mafia bullshit is getting old." One of the officers stated as he skimmed through a notepad noticing he needed to start on a new one soon.
A young brunette male with hair swept back neatly was squatted down by the body taking a closer examination of the corpse sprawled out, their tongue missing.
"I'm trying to figure out if he paid his debt of getting his tongue cut out, why kill him?" Detective Derek Ryker commented as he held a flashlight into the victims mouth with the end of a pen holding his mouth open.
"He pissed them off even more, I guess." The officer above him rambled not thinking he was being heard since the superiors never paid their opinions or theories much mind, but not Derek. He was open to ideas and conversations. Nothing slipped past him.
"That's the thing about how they function. They don't have that kind of patience." Derek stood and tilted his head, passing the pen to his partner who at first backed away, but Dwrek quickly slipped the open into his coat pocket with a smirk. But it was instantly extinguished as he went back into work mode. "Their tongue is freshly sewn up. Just like the one we found in uptown about a year ago. And in between that time were two others we thought were unrelated, but they've had organs missing. It's professional work for them to still function."
"Mafia's got great healthcare coverage. Don't even have to pay a monthly premium." One of them chuckled, but Derek was processing it all.
"No. If they don't pay up or meet expectations, they pay… But either they all have a medical degree or they're paying off the right person to get the work done." Derek gestured to cover the body up as he glanced around the warehouse. "No cameras. No traces of loads being taken in or out. Properties up for sale so no record of current ownership so it's easily accessible to anyone and their moms. Only crumbs left behind are dead bodies." Derek nodded his head, puckering out his lower lip as he turned his attention to his partner. "Basically a shit show that keeps getting reruns."
His partner chuckled then shook his head.
"And not even open to criticism." They added, but the other officer had left the two alone to discuss as he went to add more to the report in his cruiser.
"I think it's time we start seeing changes. We're not getting anywhere." Derek set his hands onto his hips and gave an annoyed sigh.
"You're actually considering it?" His partner asked skeptical and somewhat surprised, arching his brow. "It's suicide, Derek. Trust me, it's not worth it."
"No," Derek was tired of being bored. Mundane life. He wanted change. He wanted something more exciting than this every day debacle that led them nowhere. Same shit, different day, "it'll be an in and out mission." He smiled, thinking unrealistically, and his partner knew he was full of it, but truthfully Dwrek was more than prepared to take on the sacrifice.
"Who can't resist an American who speaks broken Russian wanting to betray their own country?"
