****before I start this next chapter I just wanted to send out a thank you to one of my readers. The last few days since I updated The Dhampir I was struggling a severe anxiety attack. I felt like I was drowning, but I was able to get through it. I wouldn't have gotten through it without the comforting comments. I just want you all to know that words carry meaning, rather they be good or bad they still leave an impact. So without further ado here is the next chapter. Enjoy****
Abbigail
I just found out I'm having triplets. I'M HAVING TRIPLETS! Oh my God. Why didn't they notice it in Afghanistan? I'm freaking out, but immediately calm down for the babies. I was in the bathroom, needing a moment alone to gather myself before joining the others. I asked to keep the triplets secret until things with Shawn calmed down.
I smile lightly in the mirror as tears fill my eyes. I caress my stomach, letting out a calming breath. The door opens behind me as Beth walks in. She looks at me through the mirror with a question in her eyes. She knows something is bothering me and knows I'll tell her. "Triplets," was all I needed to say and she was instantly at my side. I shutter a calming breath and ask in a choked whisper, "How's Shawn?"
"Awake," she says with relief, caressing my stomach. "They took her for scans to check on healing process."
"Can you help keep the triplets a secret until things settle down with Shawn? I don't want to be crowded right now," I say in a wavering whisper and she nods with understanding. I let out a relieved breath and she wipes my eyes. "Thank you Beth."
"You're welcome," she says quietly and I could sense something was bothering her.
"Your turn, what's bothering you," I ask in a soothing whisper and she sighs deeply. "Does it involve Shawn?"
"I'm just reveling the fact she's awake and this isn't a dream," she says with confusion in her eyes. "Thank you for sharing Melanie while Shawn..."
She breaks into uncontrolled sobs and I take her in my arms. "Of course, you'd have done the same for me," I choke in a soothing whisper.
"Shawn's going to be a while, grab something to eat with me. If I'm hungry with just one, you have got to be hungry with three," she says grabbing my hand and I couldn't help but laugh at her sudden change of mood and topic change.
We find Melanie with the others and I grab her hand as we walk by her. "Excuse me," she says to my parents as she follows the pull of my hand. "Abby, everything okay?"
"I told Beth," I choke quietly and she kisses my fingers as we walk to the hospital cafeteria. "Can we tell Shawn? It's only fair..."
"Breathe Abby," Melanie says softly, stopping in front of me, caressing my face. I bring my hands to her forearms and lock eyes with her icy blues. I shutter a calming breath and she kisses my forehead. "I'm okay with telling Shawn. I can't imagine how scared you must be feeling right now."
"Scared would be putting it lightly, I'm fucking terrified," I choke quietly as I continue with calming breaths.
"Do you want me to get my parents? They've been able to help you calm down lately," she asks with concern about the triplets as she lowers her hands to my stomach.
"Please," I plead with my lower lip quivering
She just gives me an understanding smile, kisses my forehead and goes back to our family while Beth continues to the hospital cafeteria. We find an empty table in a corner and Beth does her best to calm me. I feel bad, her wife is here recovering from getting shot multiple times and I'm here getting comfort from her.
"Stop," she says softly, knowing what I'm thinking. "Shawn is fine. Calming you down right now is more important than waiting on scans. It's okay Abby."
