Don shifted his stance as if waiting for a response. Peter studied the paper in his hand with a concerning grip. Not only did Y/N now have some sort of crippling debt to that gang, she now also had the threat of complete eviction. Peter moved his tongue about his teeth in thought, as if it all left a bad taste in his mouth.
How dare this landlord- what was his name Dick? Dong? Don. How dare he try to evict Y/N.
"What's this for then?" Peter demanded forbiddingly, holding it up and looking as though through it, as if the stupid notice shouldn't exist.
"She owes me. I don't care if it's just her paying for herself and Lucy's rent, someone needs to pay up and right now it's her." Don's reply stood assured, pinning his eyes on Peter's, a hinted malice. He placed a small paper surreptitiously on the side.
"Who's Lucy?" Peter immediately questioned. Who the hell was Lucy and why was Y/N paying for her rent! Peter was pissed, and rightfully so. Who in the right mind would evict the one person who was paying for the rent?
"She's Y/N's roommate," Don replied, "And if it's Y/N paying for both halves of their rent, she needs to pay up now." That was all the evidence Peter needed to hear before concluding both Don and this, Lucy person, must be pricks. No wonder Y/N seemed to be struggling so much with money. A soft breeze passed through the open window of Y/N's bedroom, flowing past Peter causing an unwanted, involuntary shiver, though he couldn't help feeling as though Don caused his movement. It shouldn't have really, Don was a pretty large, brawny man towering over any average person, however Peter was taller, albeit thin, but his height alone made him look terrifying to anyone under five and a half feet. To be exact, Peter was six foot five, and the man standing before him was just the smallest bit shorter than him. Don's hands and fingers were large and fat, Peter's on the other hand were large and slender wherein veins were just about visible under his greyish skin. Lowering the yellow paper notice, Peter shifted his glare back at Don with a now sinister overtone.
"How much?" Peter questioned, tilting his chin up with each word. In Don's eyes Peter was a giant, seemingly taller the more he brooded, an intimidating glare was catching him off guard and Don suddenly found himself in the threatened position. The longer Peter stood, the cold blue stare trained on Don's every move like a predator could kill. Don stepped back in an attempt to escape Peter's eye's menacing glow.
"Hm?" Don's voice had dwindled slightly. It was clear as day he felt somewhat uncomfortable in Peter's presence, though Peter himself was too focused to notice.
"How much money. What does she owe?" Peter's voice, a low growl of sorts, answered. And yeah, he was pretty pissed. Who the fuck did this man think he was? Making Y/N pay for rent that wasn't hers. Clearing his throat for a moment as a single bead of sweat rolled slowly down his face, Don gathered and replaced his confidence quickly in answer.
"Well, that's confidential information, sorry."
Peter responded almost immediately, "I'll pay it." He said. A slight pause followed, Don had soon averted his eyes but could feel the unwelcome embrace of Peter's neverending stare from his peripherals.
"You'll pay it?" Don questioned, his gaze returned to Peter's, a greedy smile began to form on his face. If this man was going to pay for Y/N's and Lucy's rent, he could charge him whatever he wanted.
"Yep, what is it? I'll pay it." Peter said, standing his ground, unblinking. Don tossed all the numbers he could think of in his head, it had to be a believable number, after all, Y/N's apartment was shabby, so if he was honest- it wasn't worth all that much in comparison to some of the others. The number he spoke was a couple hundred off a thousand, and Peter tensed. He shuffled quickly in his pocket, yanking out a wallet and began counting notes at light speed. Twenty's after twenty's and Peter's hand eventually filled with a very large wad of cash, slapping it down on the smug-faced, hairy large hand of Don's. He flicked through them imminently, licking his lips as Peter watched in an enraged glare. Peter was quite sure he'd been lied to about the sum of the rent, he didn't care, Y/N was not to be evicted on his watch, and he was to make sure of it. A shit-eating grin spread across Don's face as he had counted correctly, the entire sum of money Peter handed to him.
"Hm, I suppose I'll have to take that back then." Whilst still gawking at the money, Don outstretched his palm towards the other man. Peter returned the eviction notice to Don.
"Thanks for doing business with ya'." Don said. The moment he turned to face him and had held out his hand a second time for Peter to shake, Peter slammed the door on the landlord, in stupid his face too. Peter had to smile.
