Chapter 2: See what the normal eye cannot see

Yokohama Street. The supposed street where the wife of the client had supposedly disappeared.
The man was possibly right, as there is an abandoned building on the street.

Matsume, along with Kyubey, walk along the street.
"That's the building.", Masako telepathically speaks to Kyubey.

Yokohama 5. It's a building with several stories, which has been empty for several years after the owner of it left it. Nowadays, only squatters, teens or gangs come inside the building to occupy empty apartment spaces.

They both enter the building.
Only an eerie silence greets them, along with dust in the air of the building.

Masako thinks to herself as to how this building hasn't been removed yet. It has been empty since she could remember.

Both make careful steps as they go inside the apartment, as there could be people inside.
While she does not fear for her life because of those people, she would be very bothered if someone did interrupt her in her tracks.

"Now, this place should be a perfect spot to start.", she thinks to herself.

Masako wipes her hand in front of her face with normally grey eyes.
As she does so, her eyes suddenly turn yellow.

"SURROUNDINGS SCAN: ACTIVATE.", she whispers.

She now perceives... everything.
All senses are heightened.
She sees like a cat, hears like a rabbit and smells like a dog.
It's almost overwhelming for her mind. After all, humans do not perceive this much information for a reason.
But she is able to find exactly what she is looking for, by putting a focus.

After all, she can see what the normal eye cannot see.
Magic, miracles, witches, and despair.
This is the power of a magical girl.

"There is a witch here. On the top floor."

Even without using her soul gem, she can detect witches along with the entrances of the labyrinth and pinpoint their exact locations through the walls of the building.

"And on the stairs, I see trails of despair."

She also can detect magic, both from magical girls and witches. She can even tell how long it has been lingering in the air.
And she can see the trail of someone who had been infected with an kiss of a witch.
"Exactly two days ago, someone with a witches kiss was here."

The trail leads directly into the gate of the witches labyrinth, which she can detect as well.

That must be her.
Or was.

"It's been two days ago. It's likely she has already gone into the labyrinth. ...and be absorbed into the witch.", she telepathically communicates to Kyubey.

"Yes, it is very much likely, but it does differ from witch to witch. Do you still want to investigate?"

Though, there's still a glimmer of hope. What if by some crazy chance the woman was still alive?
Besides, the witch has to be prevented from claiming more victims. And a grief seed is also there for her.

"I will. Though, I think I'm better off alone for this.", she telepathically answers.

"I see. I still don't understand the reason."

"I simply prefer it."

"It's simply intriguing, considering how most magical girls prefer for me to accompany them. I will go away on your request."

She leaves Kyubey without a goodbye and decides to go up the stairs.
After walking the stairs, she enters the room where the gate is located.
Nothing odd or special is inside the room itself.
Only the gate is of interest.
The trail of lingering despair leads to the gate.

With nothing else left, she enters the entrance to the labyrinth and closes her eyes.
