TW: Domestic Abuse

-

The next morning was pretty uneventful. With Suna in his right state of mind, he was able to get up before everyone in the house and at least start breakfast.

It wasn't long before Atsumu and Bokuto woke up. They were used to being up for volleyball, even though it was a Saturday.

Suna was in the middle of frying eggs when he heard a yawn that shook the whole house.

"Morning, Atsu." He said without looking back.

Atsumu looked at him in pure confusion of how he knew it was him immediately. Looking at the still turned around man, he spotted a slight purple mark sucked into his neck. He opened his mouth to make a snarky remark, but shut it just as quick, remembering Bokuto was sat at the counter next to him.

-

Suna ended up making avocado toast and a fried egg for everyone. He knew nobody disliked avocado, due to the fact he knew them all well enough.

Later into the morning, Akaashi and the others joined the three sat in the kitchen.

"g'mornin.." Akaashi slurred, followed shortly by a hefty yawn.

"Morning. I hope ya don't mind, but I went ahead and made eggs and avocado toast for us all."

Akaashi felt a red heat touch his ears and couldn't help but smile.

"Thank you."

-

When everyone was done with breakfast, they made their way downstairs to hang out for a bit before leaving to do their daily tasks. That is except for Suna and Akaashi.

Suna stayed in the kitchen to do dishes. As for Akaashi, he didn't wanna leave him alone, so he sat atop his counter next to the sink.

"So, you cook and you clean, huh?"

"Yeah. My mom always reminded me to help out after meals, I guess it just stuck with me. She passed a few years back."

They sat in silence, the sound of the water flowing and splashing suddenly deafening.

Akaashi was the first to break the uncomfortable silence.

"I'm so sorry. I'd like to imagine she was a great woman."

"She really was. My father was... abusive. He hit her. He hit me. But even through those hard nights, she'd still sing me to sleep. Sometimes, I'd wake up to find her asleep next to me."

Suna continued on with stories of his late mother. Akaashi watched with a type of fondness, swallowing him whole, that he hadn't felt before.

Suna finished up the last of the dishes before turning to face Akaashi.

Time seemed to freeze. It was only them, alone together.

Suna moved his hands onto Akaashi's and squeezed.

As he looked across every feature of the latter, he decided to shoot his shot.

"I know this really pretty spot upon the hill not far from here... I wanna take you there today. We can bring a cheesy plaid picnic blanket to lay out and stay up there until dusk. We can watch the sunset and-"

Suna was cutoff by a finger held to his lips.

Akaashi flashed a warm smile and nodded.

"I'd love to."

-

Suna drove over to Akaashi's house to pick up the latter around noon.

Suna was wearing a black and white striped T-shirt and baggy jeans, all tied together with classic black Converse.

Akaashi waltzed through his front door, his picnic basket of fruit bouncing with each step. He was wearing an olive green crewneck under a pair of black jean overalls. The look was finished off with Air Force 1's.

It was a cool fall day, so the fact they were wearing warmer outfits hadn't bothered them.

Akaashi was greeted with a warm smile and a-

"IS THAT A CARAMEL MACCHIATO??" Akaashi's mouth gaped wide as his face flushed a bright pink.

"I- Uh- yeah- If you don't like it, I'll take you to get a different one."

Akaashi gently grabbed the drink from Suna's hand, careful not to spill it. He looked up at Suna and smiled so bright, Suna was sure he'd go blind.

"Caramel Macchiato is my favorite drink in the entire goddamn world! How'd you know??"

Akaashi looked up at Suna as he took a big sip from his steaming hot coffee.

"I asked Bokuto. I remembered you came with the trio and figured one of them had to know."

Akaashi, if possible, smiled even brighter. He was overjoyed with delight.

-

They pulled up to the hill at about 1:30. There was an old oak tree atop the hill with a tire swing, which immediately caught Akaashi's eye.

Suna parked the car and walked around to the trunk. He stuck to his word and brought a cheesy plaid picnic blanket. He also brought pasta salad and homemade cake. Chocolate, of course.

The pair helped each other spread the picnic blanket across the grass, weighing each corner down with rocks they found sprawled along the hill.

When they finally sat down and started eating, the sun was only a few hours from meeting the horizon.

After most of the pasta salad and fruit basket had been eaten, Suna whipped out his homemade chocolate cake and two forks.

Akaashi stared at it, drool practically falling from between his lips.

"Did you.. did you make that?"

Suna blushed slightly and nodded.

"A family recipe. I made my own ganache to top it off. I didn't bring plates, so just go ahe-"

Suna couldn't even finish his sentence before Akaashi was stuffing his face. He watched as his eyes rolled to the back of his head.

"I'm gonna go ahead and say you think it's terrible."

The male, sat across him with his mouth stuffed, did his best to laugh without spewing crumbs everywhere.

-

As the sun started to set, the sky was a perfect gradient of blue to yellow. Orange clouds littered the surroundings.

Suna and Akaashi sat in silence. A comfortable silence.

A gentle wind ran past the two, blowing through every fiber of their hair.

Suna looked over at Akaashi, the fading sunlight reflecting off his eyes.

"Oh, a day as pretty as you."

Akaashi looked over to the man sitting next to him, slightly flustered.

A gentle smile grew across his face.

He reached over and grabbed Suna's hand.

Suna looked down, and back up again, starting to slowly lean in.

Right as the sun hit the edge of the mountains, their lips connected. It hadn't been their first ever kiss, but it was the only kiss they'd exchanged where it hadn't been lust filled.

There was a true connection between the two, but only now had they discovered it.
