"You know, you should take a break from your work... The kids miss you..." Heeseung said while leaning at the door, he stared at his husband who was busy typing on the computer in his office. It's been years since his last time spent with his family. As for Heeseung, he could not do anything, he tried so hard to stop his husband from overly working.
"Just a little bit more..." Sunghoon replied but Heeseung knew it would take forever for him to finish. Heeseung left his husband's office to meet their children downstairs. They had two wonderful children, a six years old boy named Park Ji-woo and a three years old girl named Park Haeyoon. Heeseung was so lucky to have them, it helped him to avoid loneliness. Heeseung walked downstairs to see his children playing with toys in the living room, a smile plastered on his when he saw the eldest child trying to help the youngest connect the blocks.
"Papa!" Ji-woo beamed when he noticed his father's presence.
"Up! Up!" Haeyoon wanted Heeseung to pick her up while spreading her arms. Heeseung gently carried his daughter as he kissed his cheeks which made Haeyoon giggle.
"How're my babies doing?" Heeseung looked around to see many toys were scattered.
"We made tall buildings out of blocks!" Ji-woo lighted, and he felt dignified with his creation.
"Ohh it is amazing!" Heeseung ruffled his son's hair as Ji-woo smiled proudly. "Let's settle down, papa wants to tell you something..." Heeseung began to sit down on the foam mat as he placed his daughter on his lap.
"What is it?" Ji-woo was eager to know what was Heeseung going to say.
"Next week, papa wants to take you two to Disneyland!" Heeseung announced, and the two kids got extremely excited by the news. They jumped around and cheered in happiness. But Ji-woo halted his movement for a moment as he stared at this father with concern.
"Is daddy going to come with us?" The six years old asked.
"Papa is not sure..."
"It would be nice if he comes with us! We are going to have loads of fun!" Ji-woo declared as he took his sister's hands to dance with her. "Can you please tell daddy to come with us?" He begged.
"Papa will try to make sure that your daddy will follow us." Heeseung kissed his two children on their foreheads and let them continue their dance. It saddened Heeseung to see his children beg their dad to spend time with them. They should not plead with someone to play with them, especially their dad. His husband should always be there when their kids needed him. But he failed to play his role as their dad.
At night, Heeseung would get ready for bed, and after putting his children to sleep, he would wash up. He glanced at Sunghoon, still busy with his work. Heeseung bit his lips and took a deep breath before asking his husband.
"Sunghoon, next week, I want to take the kids to Disneyland. Is that okay for you to come with us? The kids really want you to be there..." Heeseung mumbled, he dared not look at his husband, afraid of Sunghoon's reply.
"I don't know, Hee. I have a meeting next week. Perhaps I can't join you guys."
Heeseung was disappointed, yet not surprised.
"Please, Sunghoon. For the kids..."
And for me too...
Heeseung would not enunciate the last sentence.
"I'll try, Hee.." Sunghoon sighed.
Another night for him to waste his tears quietly, Sunghoon did not even notice that his husband was silently crying beside him.
