7. Promises made. Promises broken.

Tony watched as his cousin took advantage of his gym. She had wanted to leave nearly three months ago but the attack meant she had a broken ankle and her side injury which in turn meant no touring and she had reluctantly stayed in the Tower, spending time with Morgan and when the kid was at school she was writing songs and using the Towers facilities to regain her strength. Most of her energy she put into relearning the piano. Tony was only too happy to let her, spending his free time with her when he could, amazed every time he heard her sing. His heart ached at the idea of her being fully fit and wandering again. He needed to get her out of the habit of ratty motels.
"I'm on the deep end watch as I dive in" her voice filled the gym as she ran on the treadmill. He had also noticed that Barnes was taking an interest in her, something he did not like. However Barnes was the ideal bodyguard. He had finally accepted that Barnes was a different person to the Winter Soldier but if he kept getting closer to Nancy he would have to tell her what Barnes other persona had done. His parents had been the one good thing in her childhood. Something he was dreading he didn't want to see Nancy heartbroken again as he knew she would be. She had always had trust issues but this would devastate her. Sighing he went to talk to Pepper.

Nancy walked in to hear Pepper yelling "Tony no. We've done enough to her." When he saw her he just hung his head and rapidly left.
"What's the matter with Tony?" Nancy watched her cousin rush out of the family room as Pepper sat drawing with their daughter. Pepper kept her head down and just shrugged giving Nancy the idea it was something to do with her. Without hesitating she ran after him swearing
"Shit" as she just missed the elevator doors. On a whim she headed down the stairs knowing she couldn't get down there as fast as the elevator but she could get to his lab reasonably quickly.
"Hey you, whats going on?" She demanded as Tony paced up and down his lab. Without hesitating he hugged her and then stepped back.
"Everything. I don't know where to start. David is definitely back in town. Barton's gone looking again, he thinks Laura knows where he is because Nathaniel mentioned him. Barnes" he began searching her face for understanding "keep away from him Nancy, do not get involved with that man." As he spoke he gripped his cousins arms.
"What? I told you David is back! He won't come near me while I'm here and I'm not involved with Barnes he's just looking after me that's all." she lied "what's going on Tony?" To her surprise her cousin just sat down and shook his head. Nancy leant into him with a hug not moving until he chose to do so. Nancy was puzzled by his behaviour she just wanted to know what was going on. Abruptly he kissed her on the cheek and left leaving her bewildered and slightly worried. She was too frightened to pursue it at the moment but whatever it was she planned to find out before she left the Tower.

"Another party?" Nancy groaned as Pepper asked if she wanted to sing at it just to practice as she hadn't performed in public for nearly six months. "Can I do something a bit different maybe? Less wedding singer and more me?" Pepper frowned slightly before grinning as she nodded in agreement. The smile on Nancys face made her realise how excited she was at performing again. "Tony is going to make sure the security team keep David out". Swallowing Nancy nodded determined not to let him have any more control over her life. One of the hardest conversations she had had for a long time was explaining to Bucky that her ex boyfriend would not take no for an answer. Before she had joined SHIELD he had been arrested for her kidnapping when she had refused to bow to his wishes.This created a long list of police reports and restraining orders which he just ignored and tried to beat her into submission. Eventually he had simply stolen her from her office in front of her staff and that kidnapping had resulted in his arrest. Now he was out and wanted her back or, she believed, dead.

Barnes watched as Nancy set up the stage for her evening performance the thing that surprised him was the bar man he had met at the wedding all those months ago had turned up to play piano and another man to play drums. As he watched them set up a third man prowled in and just kissed the back of her neck without interrupting her conversation who ever he was, Nancy had no problem, as she just ran a hand down his arm as she carried on talking.
"What are we starting with Princess." Jackson asked as he wrapped his arms around Nancy not taking his eyes off of Saul who just huffed and carried on sorting out their music.
"Loud and partying" she replied laughing a large grin on her face "Bucky come meet the guys" she called, Barnes stormed over to them almost growling. Jackson studied him carefully not moving his hands off of Namcy.
"So this is the man my hearts been telling me about" he smirked as she went to move, still keeping his arms wrapped around her resting his chin on her shoulder. Very carefully his jaw twitching Barnes just pulled her from his grasp and growled.
"He he, met your match Jackson this one doesn't pussy foot around" Saul laughed moving away from the music and much to Buckys confusion laid a hand in the man's face "hello love" he breathed and the two men kissed.
"You are in so much fucking trouble" Nancy laughed. " I've put you in the spare room on the same floor as me, for Godsake tell the room to sound proof when you get up there there's children in the building" As she spoke Bucky realised she had practically melted into his side ignoring the look on his face. "Don't worry Bucky he prefers boys." She whispered as they watched the two men fall into each other's arms. "Damm shame though." growling he pulled her out of the hall and towards the lifts. "Ooh feeing the need to assert your alpha male dominance are we?" She giggled  almost skipping after him as he dragged her by her wrist. The sight of the vein twitching in his head made her laugh out loud. Once Bucky had called the elevator he dragged her inside and pressed her against the wall Nancy just wrapped her legs around his waist and kissed him "He's just a himbo James." She breathed between his kisses "nice to look at but you wouldn't necessarily want to fuck him. No conversation skills." As she spoke he kissed her neck running a hand over her body and listening to her groan as her back arched.
"Well that's okay then. I guess i don't need to assert my, what was it you called it? My alpha male dominance. I'll see you later." Giving her a peck on her cheek,  he simply pressed the button to restart the lift and exited on the next floor leaving her gasping in a puddle of desire on the floor
