Unwanted Passengers

on the Hogwarts Express

The Greengrass Family stood united on the platform. It was a performance of unity expected from pureblood households. Otherwise, nannies and hired childcare would escort children to the platform. After all, pureblood socialites have their calendars booked months in advance. More importantly, it was also a tradition. There is nothing pureblood elites love more than their precious tradition.

It is why so many of them still send their children to a school that does not support their values about magical blood. Durmstrang should be the preferred school. It is why they can justify their practices clouded with dark magic.

Parents and students were hollering and running all over the place like ants in a disturbed ant pile. It felt more hectic than usual. Maybe it felt that way because every time someone barreled past us too roughly, Uncle Jasper would all but whip his wand out at them. But, for appearances, he merely pulled a beaming Astoria into his side and glared. She, on the other hand, couldn't stop beaming.

His youngest daughter, despite her illness, could overcome all odds and attend Hogwarts. Astoria told me he kept begging her to wait a year and let him hire the best homeschool professor money could find. But Hogwarts was her dream. She didn't go through two summers of painful blood treatments to back down at the last moment.

"Girls," He addressed Daphne and me firmly, "I expect you to keep an eye out for Astoria this year. Unfortunately, there is no way of predicting how magic will affect her health-."

"Father, please!" Astoria whined, "My doctors said I could go! I'm fine!"

Uncle Jasper didn't look away from his eldest two dependents, and we both nodded, fully aware we would watch her, regardless. Then, finally, he turned to me, and I tried to not look away. "Estelle, you would be wise to remember our discussion last evening. This is your last chance to behave as a student of Hogwarts."

"Yes, sir," I was squirming under his gaze a little.

"Do not disappoint me," He narrowed his eyes before flicking them toward the scarlet train, "You may board."
