-Camille POVThe gun was aimed at her heart.
Camille seemed to always have to watch her back. She would have thought after eighteen years, the hunters would have gave up trying to find her, but they always found her. She spent all night planning escape routes and better ways to act as mundane as she could. But no amount of books, training, and planning prepare you for when it really happens.
Camille certainly did NOT envision her morning with a loaded gun aimed at her chest.
"please, put the gun down." She tried once more to reason with the hunter. The tall man with scars on his cheek sneered at her. "You're a disgusting little thing aren't you? a little freak of nature you bitch. I should blow your head off."She gritted knowing how much hunters hated her kind, lycans, werewolves. Goddess knows its been a burden from the moment she was born. Sure it had its perks, like the shifting and have your wolf. But it came with the price of ones freedom. Every thing came with a price. Humans simply did not understand their world. They tended to scare off faster than animals when shown something new that they simply cannot explain or relate. Fear drives them, and it ends up leading them to obsession and dominance to be the superior species. To get rid of anything they consider abnormal.
She mentally rolled her eyes: Really? she's thinking about her quick lesson on humans instead of the gun pointed in her chest? Great.
'You Camille, need to get your life together' Lacy's chuckle rang through her mind.
Camille looked at the hunter, they were in the middle of the woods, green surrounding her sights. "Logan is going to kill you." Lacy continued.
"US. Logan is going to kill us." Camille shot back, annoyance lancing through her. "If you hadn't been so insistent to go out we wouldn't be in this mess."
She could mentally feel Lacy shrink. It had been days that she felt the urge to shift. She would find herself awakeThe man smiled a crooked smile and started to pull the trigger when a loud POP! Rang through her ears. The loud gun shot sounded through the quiet of the forest.
And he fell.
A heap of flesh that was once a hunter, human, was nothing more than bones and skin. Camille felt a pang in her heart.
' He probably had a family' she sympathized.
"It would have been us or him". Lacy whispered in her mind. Camille sighed knowing how true the statement was. She might have hesitated, thinking of their love ones, but they wouldn't. Snapping herself from sad thoughts, from the bushes, a figured emitted. Camille lifted her fists ready to attack, but just as quickly calmed at the scent of her older brother Jared. He held a rifle in his hands with a grim look in his face. He quickly scanned the scene to rest his eyes on Camille. Worry then anger suddenly filled his eyes as he stared at his younger sister.
"Dammit Camille! What the Hell where you thinking!" He shouted at her as he came closer to examine her body for any wounds. Finding nothing, he relaxed.
Camille felt a flash of anger course through her as well. Her parents died years ago, since then, Jared has been the only one to watch over her. And while she couldn't blame her brother for wanting to protect her, but it was getting suffocating to the point of her wanting to snap. She knew the hunters who killed her parents wanted her. For what? Only her parents knew."I wasn't, okay? Jared don't you get tired of running? I just wanted to blow off steam." She replied calmly. Too tired to even tell him off. Jared's eyes softened. "Cami, I know" He said resting both hands on her shoulders. "You just can't keep doing this. One of these days you'll seriously be in deep shit and I wont be able to save you. Just... stay close." He told her softly.
She looked at her brother. Tall, with green eyes like hers. He always felt the need to look good. Which he was. And he knew it. He tended to use his looks to work girls like puppets, or get things he wants. After her parents passed, they survived by having people give them pity money via jareds looks. camille remembered Once, jared being nine and she was four, how she would hide in behind a dumpster while jared would give puppy eyes to strangers in the street for their money. But no matter how easier it was for him to leave camille, he never forgot about her. Always taking care of her. And she knew she would do the same for him.
"Promise" She told him. Jared smiled "thats my good girl"
He put his arm around her and they walked back to camp.##########
Rogues. Werewolves who didn't have a pack are known to be vicious beastly creatures. But it simply wasn't true. 'Some of us are well mannered. ' thought Camille. She walked down with Jared and thought about her life. She was a rouge all her life. Never really experienced pack life. While in the camp they had some pack rules, it wasnt the same. Camille knew that while the rogue camp wasn't the best. It was as close as shes gotten to a pack. A family.
The camp consisted of mostly male wolves and some female wolves with personal issues. Camille tended not to get close to certain wolves. While she knew not all rogues were vicious, many tended to snap. The only people she would hang with is her best friend Olivia and her brother. Which is all she really needed. She looked up as they reached the camp. Old sheets made tents and other materials. The pit were the fire that kept their feet warm and heated meals was. Camille smiled a little. This is home. Jared was the head of the rogue camp. So he was sort of an Alpha when it came to decisions.Jared stepped forward and everyone looked up and circled around the fire waiting for Jared to speak. Murmurs curious about what the meeting was started to flood in Camille's ears. From the crowd Camille spotted Olivia, her long blonde hair in a pony tail as her brown eyes watched her with amusement. Almost as if to say 'you got caught didn't you?' Camille inwardly groaned and suppressed her giggles. Since her and Olivia are so close they tended to have conversation with each other with looks. She looked at her as if saying 'Yep'. As Olivia smiled and looked at her brother. Her eyes darken and Camille
could see her looking up and down at him. She sighed knowing that she has a thing for Jared. Olivia always seemed to have a thing for him, but sadly Jared never paid attention to her. After a while Camille stopped trying to convince her that she shouldn't go after Jared. She hadn't found her mate just like Camille, and most wolves don't date seriously since they each had a mate.
"Guys!" Jared shouted shushing everyone. "Alpha Roman's pack are passing through." Everyone started to panic in a frenzy of fear. Camille stilled for a second. Alpha Roman? He was a ruthless Alpha who hadn't found his mate so he got another she wolf. His pack is the largest in North America by far. And they have a horrible history with killing rogues. There goal: To exterminate the rogue population. Yeah. Sucks doesn't it?
The sea of panic still was in the air. People shouting things like: "He's going to kill us!" "We wont last!" "We need to evacuate!"
Jared finally growled "Enough!" and it caught once more the attention of the panicked pack. Sympathy hit Camille's heart like a ton of bricks. She tended to have a soft spot for her family of misfits. Any family for that matter. And her family was scared.
"Alpha Roman will let us live. If we join his pack." Jared said calmly. Camille's eyes snapped to his and he gave her a look that said 'Don't Camille'
"Everyone who agrees to join stay. The rest. Run. Because they will hunt you down. You have till sunset today to decide. Everyone is entitled to their decision." With that Jared walked towards his tent leaving all the pack with a decision.
