"Riddle!" the Matron screams, "Dagworth!" the two young children run into Tom's room and Tom shields Hermione as she crawls and hides in his bed. The Matron opens the door with an older man behind her.
"I warn you Professor, those two are the devils children."
"I assure you matron," the odd man starts, "These two will be of no issue to me." The matron then leaves the room and shuts the door behind her."You can't take her away as well!" Tom yells, "You can take me away to the crazy house but she doesn't belong there!"
Fire erupts from nothing and creates a barrier as Hermione starts to panic.
"Mr. Riddle I assure you that I am not a doctor nor am I taking Miss. Dagworth-Granger anywhere without you. Now I think it's time that you calm down and let down your magic, don't you?"
Hermione then gets her courage and walks to stand next to Tom, grabbing hold of his hand. "What do you want me to do Tom?" He presses a kiss to her temple and whispers something as Dumbledore watches the fire die. Hermione pulls herself in front of Tom and looks Dumbledore straight in the eye, "What do you want with us, we're not the freakshow to watch at your pleasure." Her tone is steady and calm but her eyes are anything but.
"I wish for you both to join the school I teach at, we will teach you to control your magic and train you to be strong. It is called Hogwarts and term starts next month, I believe you will both become strong wizards."
"Prove it." Tom demands. As soon as the demand leaves his lips his wardrobe catches alight. "Hermione, is that you?" he questions.
"It's not me." She responds as they both walk over to it.
"I think there's something in your wardrobe trying to get out Tom." Dumbledore says calmly.
Hermione opens the door but Tom quickly pulls her back away from the flames, he leans down and pulls out their box of trinkets as two snakes wrap themselves around his arm. He turns to the girls behind him and one of the snakes moves over to her, resting on her shoulders. "It's okay girls, she's safe." He whispers to the snake.
"You can speak to snakes Tom?" questions Dumbledore. The question automatically puts both children on high alert as Dumbledore walks to them, leaning out to touch the snake on Hermione before Tom's magic lets out and pushes him away from her. "Don't touch her!" he says deathly quiet as he stalks over to Dumbledore who is now trying to catch his breath sat on the bed.
Hermione quickly goes to stand in front of Tom before putting her hands softly on either side of his face, "Tom look at me," she whispers. "Come back to me," she starts to hum to a song they both know as he looks at her with blood red eyes, as he recognises the song his eyes starts to clear to his usual emerald green and he becomes Tom again. He brings his forehead down to rest on hers, "I'm back, I'm sorry Princess are you okay.""I'm okay my knight in shining armour." She responds with a slight giggle looking up at him and holding his hand as she turns to look at Dumbledore. "I'm sorry about that Professor, our magic is very protective of each other as I'm sure you've realised. Something happened a little while ago and I don't like to be touched by people, I apologise you seem like a lovely man but I think it would be best if you don't touch either of us until we know you enough."
"There is no need, I am very sorry if I have caused any discomfort to either of you. I will keep it in mind for all future interactions I have with you both." Dumbledore responds calmly. "Would you both like to sit down while I explain a few things to you about our world."
"Yes please do Sir, we would love to know more." Hermione is still the one talking to the professor as Tom is near silent beside her as she drags him to the bed to sit down. "Do you need something to drink Tom?"
"Please, water would be amazing Mia."
"You'll have to do the glass but I can do the water."Dumbledore watches in fascination as they two young children in front of him are more in tune with their magic than anyone he has seen or heard of. He watches Tom pull a stone off of the bedside table and transform it into a glass before handing it to Hermione and she hovers her hand over the glass as it fills with crystal clear water.
"Thank you Mia, just what I needed. You need to drink as well it's going to be a while before I can sneak us something to eat again." He says handing the glass to her to have a drink before holding onto her hand again and turning back to face the Professor. "I believe you were about to tell us bout your world Professor."
"Yes Tom, but first I'm going to tell you both where you got your magic from. You were both born with it and were both also born to magical families. Both of you are what we call Half-blood wizards which means that you both have a magical and non-magical parent. Tom your mother was of the Gaunt family and Hermione your relations are that of the Dagworth-Grangers both of which are quite renowned in the magical world.""By renowned do you mean rich?" Hermione questioned.
"Yes Miss Dagworth, they were very comfortable when they were alive."
Hermione turned to smile at Tom and let out a breath with tears streaming down her cheeks, "Do you know what this means Tom, we can leave this place." Tom placed a kiss to her forehead before turning to Dumbledore again.
"Is it true, is there a place we could live in your world so we don't have to come back here. Could we be safe from the impending war that is happening here."
"I'm afraid that unless you can find an adult to stay with in our world that will take care of you outside of our school year you would still have to come back here in the summers."
At this statement Hermione started to cry quietly in Tom's arms. "It's okay Mia, I'll figure something out. We won't be coming back here. I promise you." Tom turned to the Professor,
"When is the earliest we can start school?"
"Term doesn't start until September 1st, I was going to take you into our world today and take you to the bank and then to go and get all of your things for school. If you want I can still go through with this plan."
Tom looked down at Hermione before pulling her into a standing position, "Have you still got that bag I found for you?"
"Of course Tom." Hermione said standing up straight and wiping away the tears on her cheeks. She looked to Dumbledore then back at Tom before talking in parseltongue, "What am I packing?"
Tom replied still talking in parseltongue, "Everything you have that will fit in there. We aren't coming back, I don't care what he says we'll find somewhere else to stay until term starts."Dumbledore looked between the two of them, "You can both speak parseltongue?"
"Tom has always been able to speak it, he starting teaching me about four years ago and now I'm fluent as well." Hermione responded matter of fact. "I'll be back in about five minutes, I'm just going to grab a few things for the day that are still in my room. Tom, would you mind getting a few of my bits together and some fresh clothes from the wardrobe please, I'll change when I get back."
"Of course Mia, be careful and come straight back. Don't forget that Audrey and Charles are both back here so avoid the fourth floor."
"I'll be right back." She left quickly squeezing his hand in reassurance."Would you mind waiting for us downstairs Sir, we'll be right down."
"Of course Tom, I'll wait outside for you. Do try to be quick, I have a lot to show you both."
"Certainly Sir, we won't be more than ten minutes." Dumbledore left with a nod of his head shutting the door behind him.Tom pulled his bag out from under his bed and put it on the small desk he had in his room before making his way to the wardrobe and pulling out the limited clothes they both had and starting folding them neatly. He left out a dress and coat he had stolen earlier in the year, that she had yet to see, for Hermione to change into when she got back, he started to get changed into a smart outfit as well. He was just putting on a fresh shirt when Hermione did her knock on the door and entered. "I got all the extra bits I had in my bag, do you want to put any of your things in here?"
"Just put the treasure chest in there, you know I don't have many things. I put a present on the bed for you." He said as he finished putting their clothes in his bag.
Hermione walked over to the bed and gasped, "Tom, where did you get this? It's so beautiful," she was holding the dress up to her chest as she turned to him.
"I was going to be a birthday present for you but I thought you would like to wear it today. I got it at the beginning of last month. Apparently it was custom made and Addie at the dress shop didn't want it to go to waste so she gave me a fair deal."
"It's beautiful Tom, thank you so much. I know you don't like birthdays."
"It doesn't matter if I don't like birthdays, you love yours. Well try it on then." He pushed her towards the small separator they made when she started staying in his room about a year ago. She ran over excitedly. After a couple of minutes she walked out and turned with her back to him, "Tom can you help me fasten it?" she said pulling her hair over her shoulder.
"Of course," he walked over and fastened up the few buttons before walking back over to the bed and picking up her pumps and coat and walking back over to her as she sat on his desk chair. He slipped her shoes on her feet and buckled them before standing up and offering her a hand. She held on tight as he pulled her to stand and stood back, he held her hand and began to spin her. As she came to a stop he held her coat for her to slip into. "You look beautiful as ever Mia."She spun to face him and did up the few buttons on her coat and smiled up at him. He handed her, her bag and put his own on his shoulder before walking over to the door and opening it, turning back to her he held out his hand and she interlaced her finger with his as the snakes came and wrapped themselves around their owners arms under their coats and they all went downstairs to the man waiting to show them the world.
