Elizabeth's pov
Blood continued to pool on the floor from the pile of fresh bodies, which had also started filling the room with an agonizing smell. I hated the smell of blood, or I hated the fact it was so strong to me.
"Hey," a hand gently gripped my shoulder.
"Hey," I glanced over to Austin.
"If you want I can take care of this. Smells got to be bothering you by now."
"I'm fine." I reply. "What bothers me is that it took two days to find this vamp nest."
"They were well hidden," he stated walking towards the pile of bodies. "Don't beat yourself up."
"Maybe I could have found them sooner. We could have saved more people." I knew you should never play that what if game as a hunter. It'll kill you. But I had this feeling, no, stronger than that, in my gut telling me I could do more.
"Why did I just say?" Austin slightly raised his voice, not in a threatening way, but in one where he needed his point to be heard.
"I heard you," I sigh deeply.
"Then listen to me." He grabbs the arms from one of the vamps bodies and begins to drag it out of the large barn, where they had been hiding, and into the forest surrounding it.
I followed in suit grabbing a female who didn't look much older than me.
Was she just turned?
Could we have saved her?
Could I have saved her?
"Lizze!" I heard Austin shout. It took me only a few seconds to run out of the barn and make my way over to him.
"What?" I asked breathlessly.
"Look," he pointed up towards the sky.
"What the heck?" I muttered as we both watched what looked to be shooting stars fall to earth.
"That's not a normal metor shower," he stated.
"No, it's not."
One of the lights grew brighter and we both realized it was heading for us.
"Get down!" Austin yelled covering both mine and his heads. The impact was so hard that we both rolled across the grass and got the wind nocked out of us.
