"Do you think they'll manage to catch him?"A thirteen-year-old, good looking girl named Y/N Tonks had just said farewell to her mother Nymphadora Tonks when they arrived in Diagon Alley.
As Y/N started to walk along Diagon Alley, she noticed a flash of bright red hair. Ron Weasley, one of her closest friends, was unmistakably stood there, as was Hermione Granger, another close friend and arguably the brightest witch in their Hogwarts year.
The two of them were placing orders for ice cream at Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour when Y/N crept up behind them and put a hand on both of their shoulders.
She said, "BOO!" making Ron jump and Hermione chuckle.
"Stop doing that," Ron said, sounding a little irritated, but grinning nonetheless.
The three of them sat down at a tiny table outside the parlour after ordering strawberry and peanut butter ice cream.
After finishing her ice cream, Y/N asked, "Did you two enjoy your break?"
"I did, my entire family and I travelled to Egypt!" Ron declared, sounding really proud of himself.
"I visited France with my parents; it was a lovely country, and I'd like to return someday." Hermione continued, sounding less arrogant than Ron, "What about you, Y/N?"
"I stayed at home, read a little, and completed any homework." Y/N simply responded, as Ron sighed.
"Boring," he muttered.
"Reading and schoolwork are both beneficial, Ronald. I bet you haven't even finished one of your school assignments," Hermione remarked.
"Yes, I have. I did my homework on potions," Ron retorted.
"We had no homework for potions?"
"Exactly!"
Hermione rolled her eyes after finishing her last bite of ice cream.
The three made the decision to get their new school books for the year after talking further about Ron and Hermione's vacations.
Hermione pulled the letter from her pocket that had the names of all the required books, and they got to their feet and entered Flourish & Blotts.
"The Monster Book of Monsters"? Over Hermione's shoulder, Ron studied the list and questioned, "What on Earth is that?"
"I don't know, let's just take a look around." replied Y/N.
A label with "The Monster Book of Monsters" written on it and a fearful employee next to it caused the three to quit the search of the store after a short moment.
"Can we please have three of those books," Hermione said as she began to look apologetic. She referred to the caged-up books with her finger.
"Three?" The worker exasperatedly responded.
The man carefully loosened the cage's lock and opened the door as Hermione nodded. Every book in the cage attempted to bite the worker as soon as he reached for one. He hurriedly snatched one in panic and flung it in Ron's direction, who screamed as he caught it. Soon after, two more books flew out and were seized by Hermione and Y/N. After giving the man one last glance, who was now even more terrified than before, they left to make the purchase of the books.
The three were wandering along Diagon Alley after leaving Flourish & Blotts, catching up on things, when Y/N noticed someone.
Is that-," she began.
The person turned a little and gave her the answer to her question.
"Harry!" Hermione yelled as she rushed to give him a hug.
Y/N had a close friendship with Harry as well, but she hadn't heard from him much over the summer when they were off from school.
After giving Harry a tight embrace, Y/N sat down next to Ron and Hermione.
"How are you doing?" asked Y/N
Harry replied, "I've been doing fine. Have you heard about Sirius Black?"
"Who hasn't, mate?" Ron answered.
"Do you think they'll manage to catch him?"
Hermione retorted, "I would hope so, they have the entire ministry looking for him."
"My mother has helped search for him all summer, but there has been no sign of him yet." added Y/N.
The four of them had been sitting there quietly for some time when Ron finally broke the tension by saying, "I'm going to the Magical Menagerie since Scabbers has been pretty sick lately, maybe they'll know what to do with him."
"Ron, I really think you should just let him go; I mean, take a look at him." said Y/N.
Hermione, attempting to ignore Ron's helpless expression, added, "I'm going as well. My parents gave me some money to spend for my birthday. Since Ron has Scabbers, and Harry has Hedwig, I want to see if I can find a pet."
Together, they all stood up and walked into the store. Hermione went over to all the cats in the shop's corner as Ron made his way to the cashier's desk. Y/N proceeded to assist Hermione in choosing a cat, while Harry awkwardly stood behind Ron as he complained at the cashier for saying how Scabbers was "a touch worse for wear."
"Y/N, what's your thoughts on this one?" Hermione questioned, redirecting Y/ N's focus from the bickering two.
Hermione was pointing at an orange cat that appeared to have collided headlong with a brick wall but was still lovable in some way. Y/N spent a minute studying it.
"He looks great. I'll wait outside with Harry and Ron!" Y/N grinned.
As soon as Y/N left the store, Ron approached her and started questioning her.
"Did you hear them when they spoke? How is that even acceptable? Scabbers is in great condition!"
"Ron, he's... getting there." Harry interrupted, which prevented him from droning on.
Hermione left the store whilst carrying her new cat.
"What's he called?" asked Y/N.
"Crookshanks!"
"Can I hold him?"
Crookshanks struggled in Y/N's arms after being passed over by Hermione.
"Whoa, what's that?" Ron enquired while scowling at Crookshanks.
"A cat?" replied Y/N.
"That thing is not a cat! It almost ripped my head off before I left!"
Ron was hissed at by Crookshanks, who then abruptly sprung out of Y/N's grasp and attempted to attack Scabbers.
"Get that thing away from Scabbers!" Ron screamed.
"Ron, it's a cat,"Hermione firmly asserted, "That's what cats do!"
