The beginning

My best friend and doctor stared at me. I only came here to drop something off but, I stared at his lips and then at his eyes. He wants me.... Or at least I assume. The knock has us both scrambling out of the awkward embrace.

Clearing his throat, "uh...come in"

The nurse looks at Josh and then at me before clearing her throat. "There is a patient. I believe him to be excessively bleeding from..."

"I will not ask his name," I let out. "I am going to leave... bye Josh"

The scene before me glues me to the spot. One man catches my eye, though. Ah, he must be the one who's excessively bleeding...he's cute. Josh is in the center of everything and helping puts a smile on my face.

The man in front of me snaps me back into reality. I work 9 to 5, hoping at least to get by. After almost a year, it seems like nothing has changed... even thinking about it makes things worse. I walk into what I hope is another day of boring work. The secretary shook the entire building as she came my way as I made my way to my desk.

"Hello, Brenda"

"Hello to you too. Mr. Diaz would like to see you"

"Why?"

"Maybe it's to fire you. Anyway, good luck" she says before pretending none of that just happened.

I went over to Mr. Diaz's office as he wanted. Mr. Diaz acknowledges me and asks me to get comfortable. "So?"

"I just wanted to say I am considering both sides. Only one is coming up in my mind over and over again like a Ferris wheel"

Let's hope it's the promotion.

"You have been dismissed" he proclaims.

"What do you mean?"

"You're cut from the job. Fired. Laid off. Now go bother someone else"

I knew it, either way, I was not good enough to stay for the job. I get my things into the box they gave me. Not realizing one of the pictures I had put there when we were a thing. I could sense Brenda behind me even from her breath.

"What?" I ask, in a monotone voice.

"Is that your boyfriend?" she inquires almost as if I should be the one embarrassed.

"Yeah, and no he didn't dump me. He's just..." I say, and point up with my finger.
She shuffles away and minds her own business. Good thing too I can finally get out of this mockery of an office.
