Willow woke up to the sound of her
Grandma's jazz record playing throughout the small apartment. She rubbed her eyes and looked over to the clock on her nightstand. It was only five thirty, but willow wanted to go the café this morning. The curtains were slightly open causing beams of light to cast onto the covers and headboard of willows bed.
She threw the covers off
her body, slowly stood up and made her way to the bathroom. She looked at herself in the mirror. She had smooth milk chocolate skin and soft dark curls that fell just past her shoulders. Willow was beautiful. Her grandma always told her that.
But that didn't stop people from making comments about her darker skin. Willow never paid much mind to them. Her grandma always told her
'People who take time out of their sorry days to make hurtful comments about someone else's appearance, are only sad and insecure so don't you dare spare them one more thought.'And willow listened. Willows parents were both very attractive. Her parents met when her mom took a trip to Morocco during the summertime. Her dad was a safari guide who took her mom and her friends around for the whole weekend. Willow loved the story of how they met and fell in love. Her dad used to tell her the story every night when willow was younger. You'd think someone would get tired of hearing the same story every night, but willow loved that story. And her dad would always change the story by adding something ridiculous into it Like an evil monkey who plans to kidnap them. But no matter what he added into the story two things stayed the same one: her dad and mom were always together and two: her dad was always the one to save the day. that was a long time ago. Everything is different now.
Her dad was her best friend. Willow hated thinking about her dad now. She hates that the memories she has of him only make her sad, and She hates that he's gone.
Willow was pulled from her depressing thoughts when she heard her grandmother calling her from the kitchen. She slowly made her way out of her room.
"Hurry up child, Jesus, I'm 79 years old and still faster than you. And you got them longs legs from your pop." She spoke. "I'm coming I'm coming" willow said. Willows grandma was very active for an almost 80 year old.
"Mhmm, sit down. Eggs are gettin cold." This is how every morning went.
She would eat breakfast with her grandma then she would leave to the café.***
"Ah cafe girl. How are you on this fine morning?"
"Tired."She grumbled. She wasn't in the best mood today. And she was Still slightly annoyed with the boy from the last time she saw him. Willow knew it was silly, and that she was being stubborn. But that's what willow was. She was stubborn. People had been telling her that her whole life.
"Are you ok?" he asked. tone holding concern as he looked at her.
She looked up and met his green eyes. She didn't answer. She was too busy wondering why she hadn't noticed his eyes before.
"y-yeah."she blushed after realized she had been staring.
A cocky smirk appeared on his face as he looked at her. Which was only returned with a glare. He laughed as he watched her turn around and make her way to the counter to order."The tea here is disgusting." He said as she sat down at the table with a green tea.
"no its not!" She argued"Yes it is."
"It's better than the coffee." She spoke with a pointed look.
She didn't come for the drinks anyway.
And when he only replied with a shrug, she had a feeling he didn't either.
"So what's your name?" He asked.
"Willow"
"Nice to meet you will." He said with a smile.
"It's willow." She frowned.
"Ok." He said with a smile.
They sat there staring at each other for a while until willow broke their eye contact and looked down to her book.
"So you're still reading pride and prejudice?" He asked with a raised eyebrow
"I haven't finished it yet. Why would I stop?"
"I don't know" he shrugged. "I just thought mabye you'd want to read something a little more...interesting."
"Says the one reading harry Potter." She scoffed.
"Hey! Don't disrespect harry Potter. This is a classic!" He said. Clearly Offended.
"Sure it is."
The boy sent her a playful scowl and opened his book to continue reading.
Although the table was silent
It wasn't awkward this time.
And she kinda liked having someone to read with.***
"Hey! Willow!" Cari yelled As she ran to catch up with the girl who was practically running away from her.
"Wow. Are you in a rush or something?"
Cari asked as she stopped in front of the girl."What do you need cari?" She asked in a bored tone. Now willow wasn't rude. But cari was hands down the most annoying girl in the entire school. And Willows had the pleasure of being stuck
In the same classes as her since first grade.Cari often said 'controversial' things which weren't controversial at all.(They were just homophobic and racist) but, cari liked to call them controversial. Willow was usually the only on to call out cari when she said these things and now cari thinks it her job to 'educate' willow.
"I want you to come to my house after school."
"Why would I do that?" Willow asked
"My freinds and I are preparing a protest against the gay clubs in the school having rights that other clubs don't."
"What rights?"
"Well for example anyone's allowed to join any club in the school. But the gay clubs exclude to only members of the "Gay community'." cari finished.
Willow looked at her with a blank stare. "Yea, no thanks," Willow said. Wanting this conversation to be over.
Sometimes, it was best to just ignore cari."Why Not? It's not like you have plans."
Cari said.Willow didn't reply. Just gave one last glare to the blonde and turned to leave.
***
"Oh come on, you fucking idiot" Willows grandma, Clara yelled at the man on the TV.
Willow came out of the kitchen with a drink in her hand and sat on the sofa next to her grandma.
No matter how willows day went her grandma was always there.
Whether it was to watch TV, slow dance to jazz, or just talk, Willow loved hanging out with her grandma.
