She was mentally and physically abused by her controlling mother who just "wanted to best for her", she would starve Cassie so she would keep a pretty figure, hit her when something didn't go her way, and would cry to her apologizing so she would have to accept it. Her moms need for perfection led to her developing horrible OCD and anxiety.During her time in 7-9th grade she had low-self esteem and resorted to bullying, she was in and out of relationships with every boy in school. That was until she met her best-friends, they helped her build of the courage to tell her father what her mother was doing, he ends up divorcing her and gets full custody of her and her siblings. Bon-Hwa-Lee (nicknamed Bonnie by her friends) was born in North Korea. She hated North Korea, she always wanted to leave because of how dull and sad it was. She lived in North Korea until her 13th Birthday, that day she escaped to Japan by boat and almost got caught by the North Korean navy but luckily she was caught by Japanese officials first and sent to South Korea were she became a citizen. She lived in South Korea until 11th grade when her adoptive father got a new job in America. Her and her family moved to Hawkins Indiana were she experienced harsh racism for the first time because she couldn't speak English well. She heavily distanced herself from everyone until she met her two best-friends. They helped her learn more English while they took a great interest in learning some Korean.
