"Now more than ever?" I asked Aven after he had declared that he understood why the Meyarin's gave so much to mortals. That he was going to give up his rebels and their cause.
"Let's just say that of late I haven't been as dedicated to my own cause as I should have been. Something much more important has been distracting me," I laughed nervously as he tucks a piece of stray hair on my face behind my ear. Was he talking about me or the ball? I only then realized just how close we'd come, that his hand was now resting on my cheek.
"Alex, surely you must know how I feel about you. Everyone seems to know," he said appearing both amused and slightly exasperated. "My mother apparently picked you out of me the moment she had laid her eyes on you. She's been thanking the stars ever since your arrival." He moved closer, his eyes asking for confirmation, I shifted my body onto his. Aven taking that as a yes, shut his eyes and brought his lips to mine. Moving softly at first then more eager, his tongue found a way to open my mouth. I gasp at this but I kiss back, every nerve in my body was telling be careful, but I ignored it and kept going. He had one hand secure on my waist and the other on my cheek. I broke the kiss, struggling to breathe. Aven looked the happiest I've ever seen him.
"As much as I want to continue this here we should probably get back to the ball," He says. Groaning I nod, he gives me a light kiss on my mouth, pulls me closer than we already were, then activates the Valispath. (Basically, an invisible magic carpet that only Meyarin's can use). We then head to the ballroom.
